Baby Names

Request for votes

I've reworked my name list a little bit, if anyone reading this post wouldn't mind voting. Even if you've already voted, there are a few options I've added, and I've deleted some names I decided against.

FWIW, Andrew and Robert are family names--Drew is actually the mn of my father and his father, but I prefer the full name Andrew (their fn's are not usable, imo). Robert was my maternal grandfather's name. Lynne and Elizabeth are also family names--widely used as mn's in all cases.

I know it's premature, since we're still in the TTC stages, but I can't help myself!

Thanks in advance!  Smile

ETA: I don't want to discourage comments, either--feel free to leave any thoughts you have, I can take it! Smile

Re: Request for votes

  • The only girl name I like is Emily, but not with mn Elizabeth. I feel like the rest of your girl list is stuck in the 80's (sorry! They are ok names, but just dated). I like Andrew out of all of your boys names.
  • No need to apologize. Perhaps the fault lies in the fact that I'm a child of the 80's myself. I just can't get into most of the girl names today, they seem so darn trendy. I have actually found it much more difficult to come up with girls' names that I like than boys names, which is a shame since I am (not so) secretly rooting for a little girl.

Andrew is my favorite boys name too! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

LOL it's ok, I was told that my names sound like I'm naming an 80yr old woman instead of a baby :)

  • Thanks for all the votes! Keep 'em coming! It has been interesting to see which names are most approved (or most hated). Some names are more polarizing than I would have expected, and others are neck & neck in terms of love/hate.

    Any other suggestions are welcome!

  • Girls names:

I like all of these. Although they are nms, they are all pretty, and sound good with the middle names. You don't have anything crazy or misspelled. Just have a couple notes.

"Rebecca Lynn" is a Bryan White song. Not saying that makes a difference on whether you should use it. Just thought you'd like to know. (I don't think any more than a couple people would remember it- I just remember because I love Bryan White).

Emily Elizabeth is Clifford The Big Red Dog's owner- the little girl. The reason this sticks out is because everyone calls her by both names as though they are both her first name. Not saying you shouldn't use it, but more people will probably remember this than the Rebecca Lynn reference. But it might be fun for your daughter to have the same name as a tv character. You could even get her a Clifford doll.

    I prefer the Katherine spelling.

    Boys names:

Unfortunately, Aidan is way to popular/trendy and will end up blending right in with all the other Caden/Brayden/Jayden/Kaiden/Zadens on the playground.

Andrew Taylor was the name of the main character on The Andy Griffith show. This would be a positive reference for me, because he was such a stand-up guy.

I love the name Andrew. It's probably the only one on your whole list that is actually my style.

But I think the only name I voted "no" on was Aidan.

Thanks for all of your comments! And do you know, I wavered back and forth on Rebecca Lynne because I couldn't decide if it bothered me that it was the same name as that song (we just spell it with the 'e' on the end in our family, that being the only difference). I mean, I like Bryan White and that song, so it wasn't a negative for me, but I just didn't know how many people would remember it. Smile And I guess it's been SO long since I read Clifford, I had no memory at all of the little girl's name! That doesn't bother me in the slightest, of course, but it's definitely a good thing to know. As for Kathryn vs. Katherine, I've been back and forth on that one so many times, I don't really have any "loyalties" one way or the other...

It's funny, with Aidan, I had no idea of the mass popularity of  Brayden/Caden/Jayden names stemming from that until I started hanging around these boards more, I just liked the name Aidan. But the more I've seen of the craze, the less likely I am to consider that name, although I still like it, regardless. (And wrt Andrew Taylor, I can't believe I didn't even catch the Andy Griffith Show reference with that when I picked it, given that I grew up with those reruns, lol!)

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!!
