help please - tooth cutting

I'm trying to figure out if i need to get DD to the doctor or if it's just a symptom of her teething.

This week, i finally feel a tooth coming through (it's her 1st).  You can feel the actual hardness of the tooth along with a sharp edge, and it feels rough when you run your finger along her gums.

Last night she was SCREAMING and is all stuffy and her face even looks a bit puffy.  Some tylenol finally got her to calm down.  She was clearly in some form of pain.

When you feel the actual tooth, is this when the pain is the worst?  Or is the teething pain over by the time you can actually feel it?  I'm trying to figure out if it can possibly be an ear infection or something....

With B's first tooth, his discomfort level was clearly at it's highest when I could really feel the tooth and barely start to see a corner poking through. Once it broke through the skin he seemed to go back to his normal self.

For my LO the most painful was when I felt what you are describing. Right before it breaks through. FWIW- the most painful experience in teething was when the first two were breaking through. My LO is on his 8th tooth and we barely know when its happening. He's in far less pain now.

I think it all depends on the child, with my first, teeth never bothered him until his molars started to move and it wasn't them actually breaking through it was them coming.  My LO now is having a hard time teething and she doesn't have teeth yet.  I did find with both my kids that Motrin worked far better than tylenol.  Not only does it last longer, it works faster and it has an anti-inflammatory.

Ya, it seems to me that DS is the fussiest just before the tooth pops through (and that usually lasts a couple of days). I'm hoping that his latest one comes through quickly because he's been a pill at night!
