help with constipation

I have tried colace and Milk of Mag on a bad day.  I am taking Zofran which makes the issue worse.  I found something that has helped a lot...thought that I would share.

Cereal: Cracklin' Oat Bran.  It tastes pretty good and has 30% of the fiber needed.  It has made life "easier"

Re: help with constipation

  • I think my body has become immune to fiber or something because I am on fiber overload and it's done squat.  I'm glad you found something that works, though!

  • I take Colace every day at my dr.'s recommendation. (Actually when I'm not pregnant too because I am just slow in that regard). But it really helped me to keep things moving. If I wait until I need it, it's really quite uncomfortable.

See my post above. Today I am pulling out all the stops.

  • I will have to check out your magical cereal - ill try anything!! but I'll say the other day I did fiber overload - fiber enriched oatmeal, fiber bar, wheat toast, and beans = 95% fiber and NOTHING. Not even with a little colace & miralax! Hope it keeps working for you and thanks for the tip!

  • I LOVE CRACKLIN OAT BRAN!!  I had consitpation earlier, but since I started Prenexa (prenatal w/ a stool softener) and a daily dose of Metamucil, I have been fine.  I also try to eat fiber-rich foods (apples, beans, high fiber bread, etc)
  • Please try the Psyllium husk capsules.  One of my pg girlfriends recommended it to me and it has seriously made the difference. I went 2 days without it over the weekend and vowed never to travel without it again.

You can get it at the health food store.

Girl you know we have talked about MoM.....it was a weekend ritual for a while.  You will feel so much better.

  • My intestines now laugh at fiber coming down.  It does nothing anymore.  I really wish I could poop.
  • Try green veggies, too.  I am gluten-free so the types of fiber you guys are describing don't even factor into my diet.  But I eat a lot of spinach, kale and other roughage and it seems to be doing the trick.  That and a brisk walk once or twice a day can help move things along.  I usually go twice a day.

Me too. It's been a week.

Yes. A WEEK. Between the m/s and the constipation, I'm having a great time over here.

  • Colace helped me a ton!  I also switched my prenatal to Prenexa which has a stool softener in it.
