I wish I wasn't allergic to cats.

On one hand, well, it's convenient and who can argue? "Nope, sorry, can't have a cat or dog, I'll itch myself to death". ?Easy.

Buuuuuut the kids want a cat sooo bad. ?We have had them follow us halfway home before - cats generally like the kids, too.

And no, DH and I aren't going to live 24/7 on allergy meds. ?grr.

ETA we went to the pet store tonight while on a walk. ?There was a pair of kittens that needed to come home with us. ?

  • Are you sure you're allergic to all of them? I'm allergic to most cats...but not persians. I have a giant black smoke Persian and I could use him as a pillow with no problems. He is so special. I looooooove him. Try persians you might be very surprised.

  • I am allergic as well. I don't really want a cat, but I love my cousin's cat so much and I really would like to pet her -- I just pay for it. We can't even sleep over. I know my son would love to have a pet.
  • This post has me itching and gasping for air. Gah! I'm deathly allergic to cats, like I seruously can't be around them. I'm so sensitive that I can walk into your house and tell you have a cat without ever seeing it. It's ridonk. Thankfully, I don't have the same reaction to dogs. They make me sneeze, but nothing a little Zyrtec can't handle. P and C have never encountered a real, live cat and, if they know what's good for them, they'll never ask for one. ;)

  • Dh had to leave his cat with his parents when we got married because I am extremely allergic to cats.  I have never found an allergy medication to work.  I have a number of reactions from completely losing my voice to my eyes swelling shut (which lasts for days after).  Once the inside of my eye, the red part swelled out of my eye.  It is not pleasant and gross.

  • Me too!  I love cats.  We have had two cats adopt us and live on the prorch.  Flat Stanley ended up getting run over by the pet sitter of all people.  She had to go to therapy.   The other turned out to be microchiped when I took her to the vet to get her shots.  We only had them for a short time, maybe 8 months for Flat and two months for the other and I loved them.
  • I am have a rating of 4++ being allergic to cats, and I take Allegra D. I have 4 cats and they only bother me when they get all up in my face. :)

  • Goose - ditto!  20minutes tops in a house with a cat and I'm done.  Eyes swollen shut, sneezing my guts out, wheezing, etc. There's really just no way in hell.

And dogs.. I LOVE dogs.  But can't handle the poopscoop duties, the dog smell, etc.

  • come over and rub your face all over special gus. I bet you'll leave with his breeder's number in hand.

  • Get allergy shots :)  I used to be allergic to cats, which was a big problem since I work at an animal hospital!  I caused serious sinus issues by ignoring it, had to have surgery etc.  Anyways, I got the shots and at last test was coming up negative.

My 3 year old is severely allergic to cats.  He also has several other environmental allergies that will cause sinus issues like mine later in life if not dealt with so he gets allergies shots for those. I figured since he was getting shots every week we might as well do shots for cats as well.  So far he's been getting the shots for about 8 months and he's still severely allergic to them, I "test" him occasionally when I have to bring him to a house call job with me that has cats.
