Let's talk cribs..

I've heard many differing opinions on sleeping arrangements. Some say sharing one crib is ok, others say only for the first 3-4 months. I was contemplating mini cribs due to space issues.( They will be in our room at first, our other 3 bedrooms are upstairs) But Im leaning towards the Graco twin pack n play, or using the twin divider for a standard crib (but I read somewhere the divider is really only good for the first few months).

So my question is what are you doing in regards to sleeping?

  • We have one crib in our room and we plan on having them share it. They'll have plenty of room in that one crib for a few months and you can always have one at the foot and one at the head. We have a second crib but our 17 month old DS is using it right now and he should be moving into a toddler bed about the time we'll be needing that second crib for the babies.

You will need 2 cribs at some point.  Kids stay in cribs until at least 2 years old, so you can't have older babies/toddlers in one crib.  Plus, your babies may not like sleeping together (mine didn't).

    Ditto this.

We didn't want to crib share because we'd been told by medical staff that it was a SIDS risk, and as it turned out our guys preferred sleeping apart anyway - so I'm glad we already had two since I'd have hated to have to go out and buy and assemble a crib in my hormonal, sleep deprived state lol!

  • We moved a crib in our room and the girls slept in it until week 12...I think.  Week 10 or 12 anyway---my mind is fuzzy tonight!   We were actually encouraged by medical staff to sleep them in the same crib when they first came home.  I know there are differing opinions on this, but some feel it helps the babies feel more secure, etc.

They started to get cramped in one crib.  So we moved them to the nursery and to their own cribs w/out any transition problem.

  • I'm hoping to put both of ours together  in the pack and play we have for at least 4 months.  Then we will move them to separate cribs.

  • The bassinet portion of the PnP has a weight limit of 15 lbs so you won't get as much time out of it as you think you would especially if both are sleeping in one even with a divider.

    Just FYI

  • There are SO many differing opinions on crib sharing.  My 9w boys have shared a crib since day one and our pedi was fine with it.
