Hi ladies,
I am on my first cycle of clomid, 50 mgs, and had a follicular scan today, which is day 13. The two dominant follicles were 1.2 cm, I believe, and my doc said that's a lot smaller than they'd like to see.
She said we could come in on saturday for another ultrasound, to see if they're growing, but they aren't where they should be, and my lining is thin so next month they'll prob bump up the clomid to 100, and bump up the estradiol as well.
We opted not to have another ultrasound, because we're out of pocket and I just felt like its not going to make it happen or not happen if we do it. I'll just keep temping/testing just in case it does. edited to add--and it seemed unlikely based on her reaction, etc.
I was just wondering if anyone had a similar scan result, and did ovulate or if your follie was that size and you you did not ovulate. Thanks so much for your input!
edited also to add: i started clomid on day 5, and so I kind of thought it was early to say its small, but, hey, I'm not a doc. Ha
Re: Follicle size question
I got the following information from fertilityplus.org hope it helps.
Q: At what size are follicles considered mature?
A: Many doctors monitor follicle development during IUI cycles. Most trigger when the dominant follicle is within a certain size range. While there is always some difference in doctor preference, the norms are unmedicated 20-24mm, clomiphene citrate 20-24mm, FSH-only meds 17 or 18mm minimum, and FSH+LH would be 16 or 17mm minimum. It is possible for slightly smaller follicles, 14-15mm, to contain a viable egg. Also, follicles continue to grow until they release, usually at a rate of about 1-2 mm per day. A woman may ovulate more than one follicle in a cycle, but the releases will occur within 24 hours. When hCG is not used, only follicles close in size are likely to release. The use of hCG induces ovulation in about 95 percent of women, and will get most mature follicles to rupture.
Thank you very much for the info. I thought that around 20 was what your shooting for, but I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar size at around day 13. Just looking for personal stories about growth, etc. I do appreciate that answer though!
Mine were less than 12 on CD 14 my first clomid cycle and I did end up ovulating sometime around CD21.
We did end up bumping up to 100mg of Clomid the following cycle and it helped me grow them a little faster but still not as fast as my RE liked and my lining was just too thin both clomid cycles so I ended up moving to injectables.
I hope that helps.

SAIF/PAIF Welcome
Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
Sorry about that. I missed the "day 13" part.
Yes. It does very much. Thank you for your response, and good luck with your cycle!
No worries! I appreciate the help
Thanks for the hope! My lining is a bit thin as well, which doc thinks is an issue. I forgot to ask what it was though, so I plan to call in the am, but I'm glad to see there is at least a hope of ovulation. Cause she sure didn't seem that way. (btw my clomid was days 5-7, so I would think that would put me a couple days behind size wise, but she still thought it was small)
Here's to hoping.
