diarrhea diet

DD has had a runny nose for the past two days. No Fever. She is also cutting 4 new teeth. Today she has had diarrhea. Her poor bottom is so raw she just screams when I change her. What is that diet everyone does when their little one has diarrehea? Also for those in daycare, do they send LO home for diarrhea?

Re: diarrhea diet

  • BRAT- Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast

And anything that is bland for a tummy like chicken.

  • I've always been told that it was BRATT

Bananas, rice, applesauce, tea, toast  but I could be wrong that's just what I've always heard. It's also good for when you or your lo is throwing up

  • Yes at the daycare I used to work at they would send the child home.

  • The BRAT diet is actually obsolete, though I don't think there's anything specifically wrong with it. The current thinking is that you should give your child the (healthy) food s/he craves at the moment - even meat and eggs.

The acid in her stool has probably irritated her skin - try A&D or another reputable barrier cream. If the pain continues and you see patches developing, the irritation could have paved the way for a yeast infection which requres treatment with an antifungal cream.

  • I also do no dairy as well as the BRAT diet.

  • Thanks ladies. We went on into the doc after 4 bad diapers in one hour it wasn't pretty. We are on toast and pedi light for 24 hours.  She thinks it's just teething. She can six comming in at once. My poor baby :(
