DD has had a runny nose for the past two days. No Fever. She is also cutting 4 new teeth. Today she has had diarrhea. Her poor bottom is so raw she just screams when I change her. What is that diet everyone does when their little one has diarrehea? Also for those in daycare, do they send LO home for diarrhea?
Re: diarrhea diet
BRAT- Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast
And anything that is bland for a tummy like chicken.
I've always been told that it was BRATT
Bananas, rice, applesauce, tea, toast but I could be wrong that's just what I've always heard. It's also good for when you or your lo is throwing up
The BRAT diet is actually obsolete, though I don't think there's anything specifically wrong with it. The current thinking is that you should give your child the (healthy) food s/he craves at the moment - even meat and eggs.
The acid in her stool has probably irritated her skin - try A&D or another reputable barrier cream. If the pain continues and you see patches developing, the irritation could have paved the way for a yeast infection which requres treatment with an antifungal cream.
