I was always under the impression these were done at 20 wks... am I the only one waiting until then?
Mine's at exactly 20 weeks... my doctor doesn't do the big one in her office... she sends everyone to a perinatologist. But I did also have an ultrasound at my 16 week appointment in her office.
Official anatomy scans are done per the doctor's schedule. Mine is set for 18w1d. Elective gender ultrasounds are done whenever the antsies in the pantsies are just too much to handle.
They can be done between 18-20 weeks usually. I would imagine it all depends on whenever they can fit you into your Drs schedule.
Some people are going out and having an elective u/s. They pay for those out of pocket. Waste of money IMHO..I would rather be patient, save the money, and put it towards something like diapers.
Mine is not until Sept 24th, and I will be almost 20 weeks. But I haven't even seen the baby yet we have only heard the heartbeat, that's it. No sonograms, nothing. So I am ready!!!!
Gotcha. I guess I just didn't understand because my first appointment was scheduled by Dr. purposely for as closely to 8 wks as possible.. partially so I'm as close to 20 wks as possible for an appointment.
I'm high risk so I get an u/s once a month. They're not doing the "anatomy scan" on Tuesday. Just going to make sure Nugget looks okay and try to take a peek, and then in Oct I'll have the anatomy scan where they take all the measurements.

I was so tempted to schedule one.. but that was exactly the reasoning I'm using to hold out. While we aren't stretched to the max, we definitely aren't flush with cash.. I would feel pretty guilty spending $$ on something just because of impatience. I'm jealous of the ladies with the extra funds for it though! It sure is hard to wait.
Mine is next week, and I will be one day short of 20 weeks. My doctor likes to make it as close to 20 weeks to be as positive as she can on the results.
Ours isn't done in my doctor's office, it is in the imaging department so the doctor orders it anytime after 19 weeks. We are going tomorrow so just a few days shy of 20 weeks.
My anatomy scan is probably LATER than everyone else's...it's scheduled for when I'm 20w6d! Feels so far away, it's on October 6th. But yes, I am also one of "those" who decided to do an elective gender u/s and that's this Saturday.
You?re definitely not the only one waiting. I can?t even schedule mine until my next appt on the 21st! At that appt my Dr will give me the script to set it up at the hospital. That drove me crazy so I scheduled an elective one @ an independant place for 10/2 as a back up in case the hospital can?t take me when I want in (Im very impatient)! But, either way, I won?t have one until at least 19 weeks or later.

My doctor was adamant about waiting until I was at least 20 weeks... I will be almost 22 weeks when we go in for the ultrasound. It should have been the week prior but my DH will be away for business that week =( so we had to wait another week. I'm anxiously awaiting to see our LO and find out what the sex is.
But I totally hear ya... seeing everyone's posts about early anatomy scans are making me super jealous. So you aren't the only one!

I get ultrasounds every month because of having twins. If I had to wait as long as some others, I would probably do the elective scan. Lots of things are a waste of money. Starbucks, lunches out, etc. I don't think anyone opted to pay for an elective scan instead of diapers. Some people have the luxury of affording both.
Mine is not until 21 weeks. It could have been 20 weeks, but DH couldn't go- and they would have done anytime in week 20- it just worked out that for a 1st thing appt it would be that date. (after the NT taking forever b.c it was an afternoon appt on a friday, I would rather wait a few days and get in right away so that my son lasts and my dh doesn't miss too much work).
I like having it later, it breaks up the pg nicely in terms of when we get to see the baby

Mine was scheduled by my doc for 18 weeks but I am not going to buy DD diapers this week and am getting an elective U/S tomorrow Kidding girls... Seriously we got a CHEAP deal on the 3d and I never got one with DD so I am doing it.
Mine will be at 20 wks 4 days. I had an u/s yesterday, because I have had some bleeding recently and have a "thinned out" cervix because of a cone biopsy a few years ago. She took a lot of measurements and said with "99.99999% certainty" that it's a boy, but if I buy anything, I am saving my receipts

They told me to schedule it between 18-20 weeks, and after talking to the nurse we decided to schedule it for the same day as my next appointment, at 18w3d.
That way, if there is anything we need to go over with the doctor (they do the anatomy scan in a different building), we can talk to him about it that day.
Mine isn't till my 20th week the Dr. wants to wait till then. I am kinda upset cause I want to buy clothes and other items for my LO but I can wait for about 3 1/2 weeks for our anatomy scan if our LO is up to letting us know what he or she is.

Since I had a little scare with Parvo they scheduled me for an early anatomy scan at 16 weeks and then still the level II at 20 weeks... as far as paying for it I suppose it just depends on your insurance, I luckily have all of my prenatal care covered. Even though we got to have the early scan we don't want to know the sex but it was just really reassuring to see that everything is progressing nicely. They did say a couple of times that the baby is still too small so it was not 100% a clear picture.

I am not referring to anyone with multiples, high risk, or complications- that is for completely different reasons.
And I wasn't implying that those who opted to pay for an elective scan opted not to pay for diapers. I am a penny pincher and would rather keep that money in my pocket for something else for baby(or bills). Like I said, it is just my opinion. I don't really care what other people do with their money because it has nothing to do with me.

A possibility was born the day you were born and will live as long as you live.

The general rule is 18-20 weeks for the anatomy scan. The closer to 20 weeks, the better.
We were given a date when I'm 20w and a few days, so that works fine for me. Bigger baby = easier to see what is needed.

I'm getting a free one Saturday. I'll be 17 weeks. If we find out, sweet. If not, it's always nice to see the kid moving and thriving.
My anatomy scan is right around 20 weeks at my docotor's office.
