I'm considering CDs. Do most of you launder your diapers or do you pay for a laundry service? Obviously I know a laundry service fee would seriously cut into the cost savings, but the thought of laundering poopy diapers kinda grosses me out. And the thought of doing laundry everyday is exhausting.
TIA for the advice!
Re: Considering CDs
I wash my own.
Washing poopy diapers isn't that gross. When they're not on solids yet, you toss the whole thing in the wash and rinse them out in a rinse cycle before your wash cycle. And your kid is going to pee, poop, and throw up on their clothes anyway, so it's not that different.
We don't do CD laundry every day. I have enough CDs to launder every other day, and I may soon be able to go every 3rd day. It's not that hard. Toss them in, do a cold rinse, add detergent, do a hot wash/cold rinse cycle. Dry in the dryer or air dry. Ta da.
I wash my own and wash every other day (although given were low on diapers that fit right now I may be doing every day until my stash grows again.) Honestly, it's not that bad.
The downside of using a diaper service is you'll pretty much be stuck with just prefolds. I use prefolds sometimes, but I prefer to have more options.
We launder them every 2-3 days. It's not gross to me. I EBF so we don't need to spray/scrape. I dump them right in the washer & put the bag in, too.
If you think about it the washing machine is made to clean things. There is no poop residue left in there when the load is done or anything.
