Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When does LO sleep longer?

DS still wakes up about every 2 hours to eat. Is this normal for a 4 week old or should he be sleeping longer by now?

Is it possible to get him to sleep longer at this stage? Is there anything I can help him do naturally or does it happen on it's own?

He's FF and takes about 3oz during the day. He takes about 4oz at night hoping he'd sleep longer but it hasn't worked yet.

Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to get a decent nights sleep.

At about 4 weeks our LO was still not sleeping longer stretches.  Then around 5-5.5 weeks he started STTN and has been ever since (don't hold your breath waiting for this to happen... it's not a common occurance).  But it does, and WILL get better.  If I were you, I'd be making sure he never misses a daytime feeding, to ensure his body is well fueled for the night :)

  • That's what my first one did.  I thought I was going to go insane.  She started sleeping 5 to 8 hours around 4 months old.

This time around my twins were born at 34.6 weeks and were in the NICU for two weeks.  They came home on a 4 hour schedule-thank god.

With my first I found that the swing really, really helped soothe her and she slept much longer stretches in the swing.  It's worth a try....anything that you can do right now is only an improvement.

My suggestion would be to try something different every night until you find the thing that works....car seat, bouncy, crib, swing, etc.  Also, keep that belly full during the day!  GL!

  • My DS started sleeping longer stretches once he passed the 6 week growth spurt.  (My DS was up every 2-3 hours at night until 6.5 weeks)

Last night (almost 8w old), he slept a 7 hour stretch, and then another 4 hr stretch.   There is hope :)    Hang in there
