That or you're trying to decide between naming the kid after either a character from Napoleon Dynamite or a Palin baby. Neither is good.

Kip is the historical spelling...as much as it can be. It's on the Social Security Names website and it goes back to 1946. Kipp made a small appearance in the 1960s, probably because someone slightly famous had that name. Kipp is a town in Kansas and a short name for a fish - the Kipper.

Tripp is Sarah Palin's grandson. I also think of Linda Tripp, one of the people involved in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. She was parodied several times on SNL. Tripp is the name of the character in the 2006 movie, Failure to Launch. It hasn't had any showing on the Social Security Names website until 2008 where it skyrocketed from #930 to #671 in 2009.
