What would you rather have?

I am deciding what to get myself for my birthday.

A pasta machine or an ice cream maker?

We are not (or try not to be) huge sweets eaters, and only buy ice cream occasionally.  But the kids do love it, and I guess I could control the amount of sugar/fat myself and make sorbets and such.

I love the idea of a pasta machine, but will I get it and end up using it once?  I recently made some dough easily in a food processor (5 minutes; it was awesome) but had to hand roll it, which sucked.  But even if I had a machine, would I use it that often?

Do you have either or both?  Do you use it a lot?

Re: What would you rather have?

  • I have an ice cream maker, and I use it all the time.  I am not big on ice cream, but I love being able to make ice cream for parties and for my kids and being able to use good, all natural ingredients.

I would love to have the pasta machine, too, though.

If you go with the ice cream maker, I highly recommend this one.  It comes with two bowls, so you can make two batches at a time (the bowl has to freeze for 24 hrs.), not to mention it is an excellent price  I was originally going to purchase the one that attaches to my KA, but this was a great deal, and I'm glad I went with it. The gears on mine stopped working right about a year after I had it.  I contacted WS about it, and they sent me a new one and paid the shipping for me to send the old one back, no questions asked.

  • That is a really good price!  Good to know about WS customer service.  Thanks!

  • My vote is ice cream maker. ?Making pasta from scratch intimidates me.

  • I love my ice cream maker.

Homemade pasta just seems like a huge time suck to me. It's yummy, but not enough better than storebought to make it worth the time to me.

  • beanzer, the dough is super easy with a food processor.  Literally takes 5 minutes (then 1 hour in fridge).  I did it on a lark, thinking I *might* do it for when we had a dinner party or something, but it tasted soooo sooo sooooooooo good, I'd like to do it more often, but only if I had a machine.

Making by hand, though, does seem incredibly intimidating.

  • I have both.  I have used the pasta maker once since I've had it and the ice cream maker maybe a dozen times.
