Little Gym vs Gymboree

Are they the same? Can anyone comment on what they preferred about one over the other?

I was going to try both before committing but MIL went with me to the Gymboree free trial and saw that DD loved it so she bought her a 3 month membership. Little Gym is closer to the house so I wanted to try both. She bought the membership while we were still in the class so I couldn't tell her I was trying out both. I am SUPER appreciative but want to know if I should still try out Little Gym for after the 3 month membership. What do you like about one over the other or why did you choose one over the other? Thanks!

Re: Little Gym vs Gymboree

  • I know NVP has/had a membership at Little Gym so she's probably better to answer than I am.  But I hear Little Gym is better for older babies, like when they get mobile.

  • my only experience with gymboree is attending birthday parties and they also came to our neighborhood spring fling, but it seems to be more centered around music and singing.  i think for a younger age it is great.

maddy took classes at little gym, and loved it.  she was a little over a year.  it was def. more active, but also involved music... her favorite part was open gym, when they can run around and use any of the equipment.

Yep, we love Little Gym but I recommend it when Layla is closer to a year old or almost walking. We started Rena around 9 months, but she really started enjoying it around her first birthday. We've never done Gymboree but I hear it's great for younger babies. My friend in Austin has been going with her son since he was 4 months old and they love it! So maybe stick with Gymboree for a few more months and then you can try out Little Gym? LG also has free trial classes and the owner Kathy is great with the little kiddos!

  • Joe did LG for about a year and loved it.....DH and I started getting bored w the classes, so we enrolled him in swim class instead. But, LG was awesome!! I also recommend you wait until Layla is walking.

  • We do Little Gym and love it (though I have never been to Gymboree).  LG is closer to my house so that's why I chose it.  Also, DD is more active and I think it is fun for her to have a mix of music and active kind of activities.  I think it's great for her even though she isn't walking.  There are several babies around 5-6 months old and they seem to enjoy it as well.
  • We did both for Emmy.  she was in Little Gym from 10 months until 18 months. (we tried out Gymboree at that time and she didn't like it).  It was great that she was crawling and the other kids were starting to walk and so by the end of the session, she was running with all of them.

We started Gymboree again at 18 months and enrolled her in the learn/play and also an art class.  We did this until she was about 2.5 and that's when we started MDO.

We will be doing the same schedule for Ally and start her at Little Gym at 10 months.

  • I definitely think Gymboree is better geared towards littler babies. We LOVED gymboree classes pre-walking!

  • we did little gym with daniel as soon as he turned one....we chose it because the classes were smaller.....it is a workout for the parents too.....now we are doing soccer tots and swimming....i think it helped him follow directions.....
