Postpartum Depression

PPD question

First off, I know you ladies aren't doctors, i'm just trying to guage what your experiences have been. DD is 3 1/2 months, and i weaned her at 8 weeks. I felt fine up until probably 3 weeks ago, when i noticed feeling "down", getting panicky once in awhile, and withdrawing emotionally from DD, finding it hard to bond with her, and even getting upset with her for crying (stupid, i know), on top of a few other symptoms. But my problem is some days i'll feel better than others. I told DH i would call my OB yesterday for an appointment, but i felt "okay" on Monday, so i thought i'd wait and see how i felt. Yesterday was so so, but started feeling worse towards the end of the day.

Have you ever felt like this? That it comes in waves? Or am I completely off base in thinking i may be developing PPD. I don't want to get into the OB's office to have her think i'm crying wolf here. Thank you ladies, I really appreciate your advice.

Re: PPD question

  • I certainly don't want to discourage you from getting the help you might need. But what about making the appointment anyway, even if you feel OK, and in the meantime beforehand trying to get some exercise, preferably outdoors with or without baby, and taking an omega 3 supplement (which has been found to improve mood)? These things certainly can't hurt and are good for you, even if you don't have PPD.
