High-Risk Pregnancy

Pregnant with Type 2 diabeties!

So here I am a type 2 diabetic...and i hear all these people talk about how sad it is to have gestational diabeties. Be thankful you didnt start out being a diabetic and even have to end up being a diabetic. All you gotta do it watch what you eat and exersise. You cant just eat whatever you want during your pregnancy. Carbs are your worse enemie. Chips...white bread...candy...pop..all enemies. And for the first time in 10 years (btw this is my first pregnancy - and im 28 weeks pg) my A1C (and average of your blood sugars for 3 months) is under 6! They want it under 5. But for 10 years it was at 10! Thats bad! Extermly bad. With eating right, and taking my insulin right me and baby are both healthy!

So ladys...if you have high sugars-start watching what you eat and start excerising. A simpe walk down the road can help! :)

    Well aren't you pleasant?

So we should be thankful because you tell us to?  I have gestational diabetes and no... I can't just eat whatever I want when I'm pregnant anymore than you can.  Well, not if I want a healthy kid.  I can't eat the things you mentioned.

What I'm thankful for is that it's been detected early enough and I'm working hard to control it.

Sorry about the chip on your shoulder.  You may want to see someone about getting that removed.

  • I think that no matter what kind of diabetes you have Type 1, 2 or gest. , it's never easy and it's always stressful during pregnancy. I'm thankful for my insulin pump and for the awsome advances in medical care that allow me to be a mommy.
  • I have GD and can't just control it with diet and exercise. I have to inject insulin. Many times a day. I do watch what I eat and I do walk (basically the only exercise I can do), when I can (living in the south- sometimes {heat} gotta drive to a mall to be able to walk- not always convienant). Plus not all women leave diabetes behind once pregnancy is over. With DD I was lucky and didn't keep diabetes, I hope with DS I am as lucky. However, having GD at all does make us more likely to get Type 2 later down the road (usually within 10 years).

So maybe your little diatribe is just more of a vent to make yourself feel better, but please stop lecturing. It is not helpful. The women on this board know to take care of themselves and don't need you telling us to do so.

  • It's hard living with either one. I had to inject insulin from the start (I was on Metformin/Actos before) and I couldn't eat anything. Not something I looked back fondly. Bad thing is that a hate veggies when I was pregnant! But as the months passed, and it got more comfortable, and I actually got used to the new diet.
