GroVia (GroBaby) diapers?

I am thinking about using the GroVia (formerly GroBaby) All-in-2's primarily with a few other types in the mix.  My mom offered to buy a large portion of my stash as my shower gift.

Any thoughts on the GroVia diapers and/or others to throw in the mix?

I have 1 BG 4.0 and was thinking of going with a few XS newborn OS.

All advice is appreciated!!!

Re: GroVia (GroBaby) diapers?

  • I haven't been all that impressed with them honestly.  We use primarily BG3.0s and they're great.  I know when I'm down to just my GroBaby and CuteyBaby's it's time to do a load of diapers.

There hasn't been a time when I could just change an insert even with just wet diapers because the covers also get wet.

  • I love grobaby/grovia. I wish it was my whole stash honestly.

I also love Rumparooz for an AIO. I have some o/s BG and sized BGs. I prefer the sized over the o/s. Something about them gaps a bunch in the front. I can get it to fit, but it just takes more work.

  • I use Grovia exclusively, and have been very happy with them.  I use 2 covers daily and switch them every change, so they can air out inbetween.  We have had no leaks and they are very absorbant.  The only thing I have added is just a micro fleece insert to help keep the moisture away from DS's skin, but they are really cheap and easy to put in.
  • I'm not a fan of the two GroBaby diapers I have.  For an AI2, I prefer Best Bottom diapers from www.nickisdiapers.com.  I prefer PFs though over those, however.
  • I personally really like the AI2 systems.  I have FLIP, GroBaby and GroVIa right now.  I like them both for different reasons.

I like GroBaby for total ease of use. I love that I don't have to stuff pockets. I love that I can easily pack a bunch of soakers in a small diaper bag vs. entire diapers and covers that would be needed for other CD options.  I love the organic cotton soakers, my LO is sensitive to stay-dry / microfibers, so these work great.   I like the hybrid option (the bio soakers) and have used it when on a 12 hour road trip and also when my LO was on antibiotics and had massive, explosive and frequent toxic poops.  It's the diaper my husband grabs for and feels totally confident using.  It's the one I leave a stack for when my mom babysits too.  I like the snap-in liner option, espeically since LO is all over the place.  The FLIP stay-dry inserts slip and bunch sometimes.  I have only had ONE leak issue, and honestly, it was the first week we were using them.  I'm sure it had part to do with user error and part to do with the soakers not being fully prepped.  I can easily use two shells without issue. My LO does not have formed poops yet so there are the occasional spill over onto the shell.  I'd say it happens 1/10 times.  The GROBABY shells are smaller than the GROVIA, which I actually prefer and think would be great for a newborn.

My advice though, would NOT be to buy ALL of one system now.  Figure out what shape your LO is, buy a couple of each brand out there to try.  If you don't frequent diaperswappers, you should.  In addition to being a wealth of info, the buy/sell forum is really good.  You can often get NEW diapers at a fraction of what they cost.

  • I've lost the love for my Grobabies. I used to like them and have a very large stash of them, but now that DD has more, umm, "output", they just aren't holding up. They are most definitely not for sleeping. She is also already on the largest setting--they will not fit after 15 months tops, I think. I thought about trying GroVia, but really I just love my Ebay 8 for $44, free shipping dipes--they are the ones my daycare likes also. Seriously want to love my Grobabies again because they are the best quality, but they just really never lived up to the whole "change out the soaker/re-use the cover" thing--I always had to treat them like single-wear CDs--the cover always smelled like pee after one use. Poop always got on the cover also.
  • So far...we haven't liked them either. They are sitting on the shelf to be tried again when she's older. We always had poo getting on the covers so shells were basically single use...and the wrinkled, rough inserts don't look very comfortable. I have better performance with PF/covers...if I'm going the "change often" route at home, since it hold moisture against her skin. Otherwise we use pockets for out and about and overnight.

  • I just assume the cover will get dirty and use them sort of like a pocket diaper - one soaker, one cover per change. The cover does a good job of keeping the poo inside - but it usually does get on the cover. Last week I used these exclusively with the bio-soakers for vacation - I had 4 covers and had to hand wash every day because they always got dirty.
  • We like ours for our older baby -- didn't start using them until about 10 months.  We only have 2 shells with soaker sets but I just bought some biosoakers for disposable options.  I think as part of a stash they add some nice functionality.  We do treat them as one use diapers b/c we don't have extra soakers but for us we could totally snap in new soakers and rotate covers throughout the day.  When DD was littler, probably not so much due to the poop on the cover issue.  I like the hook and loop because it's soft, in the summer DD has spent a lot of time in a diaper and a t-shirt and almost all of our other diapers with hook and loop irritate her stomach.  I think having a couple in your stash isn't a bad idea.  But I wouldn't make my entire stash out of them.  We have a good mix of prefolds, fitteds and covers, pockets and then these grovia.  For us it's just about right - different diapers for different days.
