Hello! I just recently discovered this cloth diapering board, and I have a question for you wonderful ladies. I'm on a 3rd floor apartment w/ no W/D. I just ordered the trial pack from Jillian's Drawers to give it a shot. Do any of you CD users have to deal with a community washer/dryer? If so, do you have any suggestions or encouragement? Any ideas that don't involve living at the laundromat? Would it be okay to do a pre-soak in the tub??
DH is convinced that it will be a major PITA, but I think we can make it work. TIA!
Re: Apartment life and CDing
I have a W/D in my apt but my dryer sucks so I'm planning to do some line drying on my balcony.
That's a good idea. I wish our balcony got more sun, but that ought to reduce time at the laundromat!
I also live in an apt with no WD, but WD in the building and this is what we do- we use Charlie's Soap, and once every two weeks/month I wash a load of rags with a 1/4-1/2 cup of Charlie's and a tbsp of water softener (TSP, you can buy it at a hardware store). Then I ONLY wash diapers in those washers with a tbsp of Charlie's, and cold water. I asked the guy from Charlie's what water temp, and he said it didn't matter, but in the winter don't use cold. Anyways, then I hang to dry in our apartment, and even a little bit, I mean the TINIEST bit of sun gets stains out. Its amazing. We haven't encountered any problems yet, like ammonia smells, but so far this works for us. We also use a dry pail, no dunking or soaking (EBF poo), and wash every 2-3 days. HTH!
