Maryland Babies

is this a horrible plan or the best idea I've ever had?

We are going to DD's first real kid party this weekend.  Her daycare buddy is turning 2 - the mom said they have 15-20 kids coming - all 1.5-3  yo from daycare and her playgroup.  The party is Saturday @ 10 am - about 10 minutes from our house.  DD also has Gymboree 9:15-10.  After Gymboree, DD is normally spent and we run an errand or two, come home and have lunch and then DD naps until 2 or 3.  Would it be insane to take DD to Gymboree, leave a few minutes early and then go to the party?  I don't know if its just going to be too overstimulating or she will just have a blast adn take a great nap?

  • Why not try?  The worst that can happen is that she will have a meltdown at the party and you have to leave.  And what better place for her to have a meltdown than at a party where there are other parents with kids the same age, no one could be more understanding.  And if it works then you know it's something she can handle.

  • I would skip gymboree- she should definitely be able to get enough energy out @ the party to take a good nap that afternoon.  I wouldn't want to risk her having a cupcake/party food fueled meltdown that could create a domino effect with the other kids at the party.  Also I would want her to really enjoy the party and not come into what could be an overwhelming environment already physically spent.

  • I'd give it a shot. As PP said, you can always leave the party if she gets too tired.

  • update - we did both and it was good!  We left Gymboree a little early adn then went to the party - which was very cute and nice chance to chat w/ all the parents at once.  The kids all had a blast - and not too many power struggles.  Came home after about 2 hours at the party and then LO napped for 2 hours, but ended up going to bed about an 30 minutes earlier than normal.
