My DS had a pretty rough time last year, as I have posted before. He has an IEP, and is on medication for ADD. He was moved to a different class last year because the first (very experienced) teacher couldnt control him. He is in first grade this year and I was hoping he would get an experienced teacher this time around. One that has experience handling kids like him, who are smart but have a hard time controlling their behaviors.
Well, they put him in with a brand spankin new teacher. She seems nice, and I have no idea what type of experience she has. But I am very worried that Hunter will not get the guidance he needs in her class. I gave her my number and let her know he is a challenge, but I dont think she has any idea of what she is in for. I am praying he behaves better this year. I am also going to ask for a meeting with the principal and his teacher so we can start off on the right foot.
Re: Oh, this is your first year? Good luck.
I'd assume that if it's within the same school that the previous teacher has talked to her about your child (not in a bad way). She probably know what to expect if she's spoken with her. Also, she could be a great fit even if she's inexperienced.
I agree w/ PP. It all depends on the teacher. One thing too, my DD started first grade on the 23rd. And man, it is such an adjustment form kinder. Several of the other kids are having a hard time too. Be prepared !
PS: Where in SD are you? I'm in N.County
Point Loma, and thanks for the warning. So far so good, but it is only the second day of school so we shall see.
