If you have an $$ stroller

Do you lock it up when you go places?

We were on vacation, and walked to a restaurant.  Although other people had left their strollers outside, I found a railing and locked my BOB duallie with the bike lock I keep on the handle.  Someone saw this and commented, "You must be from NY. I've never seen anyone do that".

This annoyed me. Why would I leave something that cost almost $600 just hanging outside of a restaurant?

Do you lock up your stroller, or am I just a paranoid freak?

  • I have a P&T E3 Twin (the side by side). I've never locked it, and we just took it to the county fair, where it got left next to rides and exhibits all day long.

  • We don't use it anymore, but we have a Bugaboo Chameleon. I never locked it, and have never seen anyone lock their stroller either. But, I wouldn't think it was really weird if I saw someone else do it.

  • I vote paranoid freak.

I have never seen anyone lock up a stroller

  • I've never locked it up in the city.  I've left it outside in tribeca (there was stroller parking at Bubby's)... most other places we've been have had a check for stroller parking (museums, theaters) or we've left it at home or in the car... we live in an outer borough and drive in if we know we would prefer not use the stroller... I have a P&T sport with jump seat.. you go to the toddler section at the Brooklyn children's museum and there are about a half dozen of them lined up outside it....  mine has a torn handle,I put some tape over it and know it's mine from a mile away... it's been used and abused.

I think I am jaded b/c my friend's stroller was stolen when we were inside Color Me Mine in Tribeca (about 5 years ago). There were several other strollers there, and hers was stolen. We had to carry both babies on the subway up back to the UWS! Not so fun...

  • I have thought about it lots of times.  I'm nervous every time I leave it outside an exhibit at our zoo (there are a couple that strollers aren't allowed into). We're usually inside for 20-30 minutes and the one exhibit is right inside the gates.  It would be so easy for someone to grab it and leave.  But, no one else locks them up, so I never have.

  • I never lock my p&t double.
  • We don't really walk places alot, but go to the zoo and such a lot, have never locked it up and actually have never seen one locked up. We took it to disney world and I honestly never een thought about it. I would never lock mine up but to each their own;
  • Eh, paranoid freak or not,  I'd rather lock it and at least decrease the chance it's stolen - I've had a friend get their new BOB stolen, too, so maybe that's why I'm also cautious. :)

And know you have at least one paranoid freak friend on here - I have a bike lock for our double BOB (hell yeah I'm gonna lock up a nearly $600 stroller that would sell immediately on craigslist for anyone who "borrowed" it permanently!) - our lock is one of the long, corded ones, and I just run it through the back tires, mainly to make it "inconvenient" to steal the thing easily.

  • I keep meaning to buy a bike lock to lock it up.  I'm in NYC and have a Phil and Ted's.  Not only can I not afford to replace it if something happened, but I would hate to lug both kids on the subway without a stroller!  I've heard of strollers being stolen and see people locking it up all the time, but also  see people not lock up.  I don't think too paranoid, but maybe I'm just as paranoid so it seems normal lol!

  • I have the same stroller but I haven't ever left it out where it would potentially need to be locked...we live in suburbia (the rural version).

  • After my mom's $30 stroller was stollen at Downtown Disney, yes. We forgot our bike lock when we were at Sea World so we pulled off the front wheel when we had to leave it. Now we leave the bike lock in it. People can think what they want, I don't want to get $400 stolen from me.

  • find places that let you check the stroller.  love it.  for the most part we don't go to restaurants in manhattan b/c it's too big a pita if we do have the stroller.  even to just get a slice of pizza... my word, most places have steps and we have to take both kids out... the kids walk more now... thank goodness.  so much easier (except if they get tired), but then it's find the closest train and they pass out on it.  lol.
  • "You must be from NY"?!?!?  Um, NYC playgrounds are chock full of unattended Bugs and Stokkes.  Or outside of the indoor exhibits at the Central Park Zoo, you can pretty much take your pick of Maclarens.
  • I lock it.  Our mountain buggy actually has an accessory that I bought with it that mounts on it with a lock.

I am with you, people break into cars to steal change, I am not leaving my stroller sitting around.  It is just common sense.

I almost never see unattended strollers on the street here, but we walk a lot and might walk 2 miles to a stopping district and then lock the stroller to the bike rack to go eat and do some shopping.  DD can walk once we are there, but not two miles each way.  I tend to ergo DS.  I think people who have never thought of this must not use there strollers as much or in the way that I do.  Essentially, we are just leaving the stroller on a sidewalk, not in a place you have to pay to get into.  I am not nearby to keep an eye on it and there is no attendant like at Disney.

Lol, this. I never lock my stroller because I'm pretty confident that out of all the Bugaboos and BoBs lined up, no one is going to pick my cheap-ass Chicco to steal.

  • Yes!  My brand new City Mini Double was stolen from Sea World about a year and a half ago.  I was left in the park with my two year old and four month old with no stroller.  Of course, my Bjorn was in the bottom of the stroller when it was stolen so that was gone too.

Anyway, we bought the same stroller again becasue we loved it so much and we now keep a bike lock in the basket underneath.  Whenever we go to an amusement park or a crowded place, we always lock it up.  Call me crazy but my stroller is not going to be stolen again!  :-)

  • I have a double mountain buggy--I've never locked it up & I live IN the city & leave it in front of my house all day/night most of the time.
  • I lock it up at Disneyland and Sea World,  because strollers do get stolen from there, and I don't want to have to replace it.

  • I have a Bugaboo Frog and am going to Disneyland in November.  I am crossing my fingers and toes that Ryan is still in his infant carrier at that point because I plan to just bring the snap-n-go instead of the Bugaboo.  I will be bringing my Phil and Ted's E3 with doubles seat as well (for the two older boys) but I don't think I'll be locking it up.  I have thought about it but it seems like a PITA to do so I think I'll probably just take my chances.
