Johnson's Bedtime Bath (the purple kind) Q?

We've bathed him in this 3 times, using the bedtime lotion afterwards. I'm a little concerned that all 3 times his cheeks have turned bright pink/red after applying the lotion. Is he reacting to the ingredients? He doesn't itch or seem bothered... but his pink/red cheeks are definately not normal. We think we're going to have to not use it anymore. Anyone else experience this?

  • We use the wash but I haven't used the lotion.  Have you tried only using 1 (like just the wash, not the lotion or vice versa) to see if he has the same reaction?

  • I only use the lotion...not the wash and DD's cheeks don't turn red.   Every baby is different though.  Is it just his cheeks that turn red or is it anywhere you apply the lotion?
  • We had the same problem with our LO's skin getting irritated. Now we use the unscented Aveeno and his skin is so much better.

  • My pedi told me not to use Johnsons'. Try something else and see if it continues. I use Aveno.

  • My daughter had a similar reaction with the J&J regular baby lotion, but would also break out the next day. I just switched to using Califonia Baby lotion on her face and mine, too!

No, I haven't tried that. I have a feeling it's the lotion since it happens only after I apply it.

Just his cheeks! And FTR, it doesn't happen with the pink stuff.
  • I put a few drops of the was in the water so he gets the "calming scent", but I use a gentler wash to actually wash him with.

  • J&J (which also owns Aveeno) contains chemicals that can cause irritation, among other things.  I don't know the specifics but I'm sure there are others on here that did more research than I did.

We switched to California Baby and LOVE it.   Its so gentle and smells so good!

  • We use regular Johnson's and no lotion, but the little write up we get at the pedi's each visit says not to use products with lavender because it can be irritating to their skin.  Maybe that's the issue if you don't have trouble with the pink lotion.

That's gotta be it! Lavender. Too bad, I love the smell of the stuff.
  • We used this once with DD and the wash part was fine (we think) but when I put the lotion on she screamed like she was on fire and we had to quickly wipe her down to get it off.  Never again will I use it.  I felt so horrible that it hurt her.
