Multiples

Poll - Diapers

I've heard hospitals only offer one size of diapers, even for preemies.

Taking into consideration that multiples may be preemies, did you take smaller size diapers w/ you to the hospital?

What is / was your favorite brand of diapers for newborns?

If you have tried the Huggies Pure & Nautral, input?

Re: Poll - Diapers

  • My DDs were 4lb12oz and 5lb14oz when they were born and they did fine in the newborn Pampers the hospital had.  That's what they had in the NICU and the nurses just folded the tops down (in the inside of the diaper) and it worked perfectly.  Preemie diapers are hard to find and I think more expensive than regular diapers and really not necessary.  I think the NICU had some preemie sized ones, but they probably only used them on the really tiny babies.

I really liked Pampers Swaddlers when my DDs were little.  I'm a big Target fan now so if we have another, I'll probably try out the Target diapers from the get-go (well, after we go through the stash from the hospital).

  • Pampers Swaddlers were definitely my favorite brand for newborns. The Huggies newborn ones (which my hospital used) were fine, too. My boys were both over 6 lbs at birth so I didn't ask my hospital if they had Preemie size diapers on hand. (We had been given a couple packages though so we did use them and they did fit.)

  • My hospital had both preemie and NB Pampers.  We used them both - the nurses preferred the preemie size, I preferred the NB.

  • Your hospital should have what you need.  Our babies were both 4 lb 10 oz and the newborn diapers in the hospital were fine.  The children's hospital NICU where my son was doesn't use preemie size for any of their babies.  We used a case of preemie size swaddlers (240 diapers) for their first 2 weeks at home.  Now the babies are both 6 lb 10 oz and using newborn swaddlers.  I wouldn't sweat it for the hospital.

    Same. We mostly used NB.

  • The nursery carry's Huggies newborns. If they are too drastically big I'll just have them call the NICU and get some preemies (no big deal since I work there and I know all of them). We used pampers swaddlers preemie when we brought my daughter home and will use them with the twins until they get bigger.

  • I'm sure your hospital has what you need (you could always call and ask?) That being said, my 37 weekers were fine in NB size. They were 6lb 2oz and 5lb 4oz at birth. They actually wore NB until just a couple weeks ago, lol. GL!

ETA: Pampers Swaddlers were great. That's what our hospital had and also what we ended up using at first. My cousin gave me some of her son's leftover Huggies (he outgrew them) and they work well too but overall I like the way the Swaddlers seem to fit them better.
