My doctor gave me a prescription for Zofran and for some reason, my insurance said that and the generic aren't covered. Did this happen to anyone else?? I'm so upset right now! Our insurance is pretty good because he's an NYPD cop and we've never really had any problems before with prescriptions. There's no way we can afford to pay for it out of pocket either, it's $62 a DAY!! I need some relief
Re: Zofran users??
i got the generic for zofran..the ins. covered it.
We have Horizon.
I hope you can get something.
Want to add: even on zofran, I'm sooo sick. maybe because there's 2.
good luck.
I can't believe an insurance company wouldn't cover that... obviously they've never had m/s. The generic Zofran has really helped me, but I'm still nauseous so it's not a miracle drug.
My doctor also suggested taking benedryl. It does take away some nausea, but be careful not to take too much. If I take 1 I'm alright, but if I take 2 I fall asleep for 12 hours. If you combine 1 benedryl with 1 B6 supplement it might work well for you. Just try it out when you're going to be at home for the day so you know how you'll react.
Also, never let your stomach get completely empty. I have to wake up in the middle of the night and munch on some cheerios. That way I don't wake up with an empty stomach.

Unfortunately, I am going through this as well. My insurance won't cover more than 12 Zofran (the generic) per month. I have to take 3 per day or I vomit. Every time I have tried not taking it, or only taking 1 or 2, I vomit all day. So my insurance covers 4 days' worth per 30 days. Gee thanks.
If we pay cash for it, it is $70.00 every 4 days, or $525.00 per month. The alternative is to take Phenegran, but even when I take half a Phenegran, I am totally knocked out.
Not sure what to do here.
Try reglan
Yeah, insurance companies don't really care how unpleasant the feeling is. To the OP, you could see if Phenergan is covered - it works pretty well for me, but it does make you drowsy. There is also a generic for it. GL!
3pups - Call the Express Scripts Customer Service number on the back of your GHI card.
MH is also an NYPD cop and I had a hard time with this. Zofran is not covered, nor is the generic, by Caremarxk, which is what normally covers prescriptions. But Express Scripts, which we also have, DOES cover the generic Zofran (ondansetron) with a $0 copay. Just make sure the pharmacy runs it through ES, not Carmarxk.
I promise, you will get your drugs!
Wow. That's harsh. I actually refilled my rx for zofran this morning and was afraid it woudln't be covered after reading a few posts about it here.
I had a 2 week supply last time and I paid $5. I got a 30 day supply this time and paid $10. I have BCBS of CNY. Can you call a company rep and see if you can get around the policy?
But as PP said, it only helps a little for me, still, I woudln't be able to function without it, but for $60+ per day, I guess I'd have to! There is another medication similar to zofran, but I've heard from others that it makes you really drowsy. But maybe it would be covered?
