Potty Training

Freaks out when she needs to pee and on potty

Day 1 pt, no method, just wanted to see how it would go. DD did not like peeing on the floor, it really freAked her out, she would say "oh no, look" and cry. When it seemed she needed to go I would put her on the potty, she would cry and fit and bounce on and off the potty, like it freaked her out to release the pee, I sat there and hugged her and encouraged her and eventually she would go. It was a naked day, far more pees on the potty than the floor, but I felt terrible how upset she would get! I tried panties once, and she peed in them, and got really upset, "oh no, my diaper" it was easy to read when she needed to go, but so upsetting to get it to actually happen. I am worried about this being too negative. She did say "yay, I did it" one time after going when I had left the room, I thought she was upset about something else, but was trying to go. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Re: Freaks out when she needs to pee and on potty

  • Yes exact same experience here. We are on Day 4 and its SOOO much better. Day 1 was full of tears and screaming that she was scared of the little potty, me encouraging, hugging...so freakin emotional. I wanted to quit but I could tell when she needed to go and I could tell she wanted to do well and was holding it its just that she would let her bladder get so full so couldnt relax and just go so she got upset I think. She would do the same thing....want off the potty and run out then I would encourage her to come back in and she would finally go. I was worried she would be traumatized by it all but we kept at it and started on the regular toilet with a ring thingy on it and she liked that so much better. Everyday has gotten better and yesterday from nap till today right now no accidents! Longest stretch yet. She gets so excited when she goes and we celebrate. She does seem to need to sit there quite awhile and sometimes tries several times before she goes but I hope that gets better in time? No more crying or running around craziness. I would keep at it if you are having success and maybe try the regular toilet?
