Pregnant after a Loss

Chiro or PT? WWYD?

I met with a wonderful physical therapist on Tuesday - I really really liked her and think she can help me with this damn back.  (while rolling over in bed last week, I apparently twisted a vertebrae and popped a rib out of place in my upper back... yeah, lovely huh?)  She worked on my back a bit on Tuesday, but due to silly scheduling errors and going to the wrong location, I didn't get a full hour with her like I should have.  It was more like 20 minutes.

So the rest of the day Tuesday and all day yesterday was miserable; since she didn't get a chance to really help, everything tightened all up even tighter than it was before I saw her.  It hurts very much to sit at my desk all day at work, even with an ice pack and frequent walks and stretching.  Sleeping at night isn't any better.

Here's my dilemma:  She's the only PT there that works with pregnant women.   And she can't see me again until next Wednesday morning.  But there are lots of chiropractors in town that are covered by insurance...

Would you stick it out and wait to see PT again next Wednesday?  Or try to get in with a chiropractor that works with pregnant women?

(My OB gave me the option of PT or chiropractor; at the time I chose PT because I knew it was a covered service by insurance and I wasn't sure about chiro.  I now know chiro IS covered too.  OB said it was up to me which way to go, that she'd had patients get relief either way)

Re: Chiro or PT? WWYD?

  • Personally, I have used both in the past for my shoulders issues. I would see if you can find a chiro that can work you in, some do some massage therapy to loosen you up to. If you are in that much pain I would seek relief sooner that later!  GL and I hope you feel better.

  • Why not go see a chiropractor and then decide which you prefer?

I personally see a chiropractor regularly and have for about 12 years as I have chronic back pain from an old injury.  I've tried PT and found it less than helpful in my case.  I wouldn't be able to function without my weekly adjustments!

  • Based on my experience (I've had back/sciatic issues for over a decade now), I've found better luck with a chiro if it is truly an alignment issue like a twisted vertebrae. PT, when I did it, seemed to focus on the muscles more, which was fine once I was aligned, but didn't seem to do as much for me until/unless I was aligned. I'd go with the pp suggestion--give the chiro a try and see how it goes. You might find that one approach works better for you than the other right now.
