Postpartum Depression

Feeling disconnected a PPD sign?

Some sites I've seen show that it is a symptom of PPD, others don't mention it. I love my LO, but, I look at him and he just doesn't seem like he's my kid, I just feel disconnected from him. Have others had this and is this a sign of PPD?

Re: Feeling disconnected a PPD sign?

  • Yes I did horribly and I also had a c section. I know c section can lead to this being more frequent. If you feel PPD may be lurking seek help as soon as you can. Happy Mommy means Happy Baby. But also remember while you have been carrying LO for months it is in a since like meeting a stranger. And that will take a bit to make a connection. Right now you dont gets hugs kisses and smiles. So just stick with it and know that any feelings you have (even really bad) are normal. ALso therapy may help and the best advice they gave me was to always refer to your LO by name. while speaking to him or about him. Helped me a ton!! good luck

  • I felt like that with my first son.  All I kept asking my husband was "do you really feel like he's ours.  I feel like someone dropped him off and we are just waiting for them to pick him up"

I got on meds right away and with some therapy it got better.  I love my little guy now.  I'm afraid with #2 it will be the same, I pray not, but I have my appts made in advance.
