Does Pica include....

...eating raw noodles, because if it does then I'm in trouble. I have eaten half the box of raw angel hair.

  • As far as I know, raw noodles won't hurt you, but I think it's worth a mention to the OB, just to be on the safe side.

  • What do you mean by "raw?"  Did you make the pasta from scratch dough, roll it out, then eat the dough without boiling?  Or have you been crunching on a box of dried pasta.  The dried stuff is cooked so should be anything that should bother you.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • I wouldn't count it one bit.  I used to munch on dried pasta all the time...weird....but good.
  • from what I've heard, pica would just be cravings for nonfood things.  I sometimes chew on raw pasta.  I have no idea where I picked up the habit.  If you're having a serious craving for it, I'd maybe mention it to the doc at your next visit.  If you start craving anything nonfood, definitely mention it right away.

Aw, I misunderstood.  I thought she was talking about some sort of food poisoning.  Now that you mention it I have heard of this.  I saw a show about some chick that ate chalk all day long.  Weird.  Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it unless you start eating non-food items...or boogers.Ick!

Yea, its non-food or not normal food- like not being able to get enough ice cubes, dog/cat food, or my grandma ate coffee by the spoonful right out of the can because she said she couldn't brew it strong enough.  Don't worry, the caffeine didn't affect my father adversely....LOL

  • nah, you're alright. maybe you are just really craving the crunch crunch of it? Nothing quite matches the texture of dehydrated noodles. Stick out tongue

Now, if you start wanting non-food stuff like paint chips, chalk, etc... call the dr. They may want to check your vitamin and mineral levels.

  • My grandmother craved sucking on moth balls when she was pregnant with my mom Indifferent

Of course, it being the 50's and all, the OB said "well, as long as you spit out the juice..."
