WWYD????

I'm about to buy plane tickets to see my grandparents next month.  Would you leave on a Thursday afternoon, ensuring optimal behavior from both boys, but I'd be going at it alone.

Wait until Friday morning, 7am flight, but you'd have help (DH) with two possibly cranky kids.

Leave Sunday with DH and have help but wouldn't get home until 11pm.

Or wait until Monday afternoon, again ensuring optimal behavior from both, but again flying without help?

Flying with DH means I'd only get to be with my grandparents (not to mention my BFF lives there) for three short days.  Flying alone would mean 5 days (really 4 since two of those would be half days.

No difference in price of tickets.  I'm about to push purchase so help me make up my mind!!!

Re: WWYD????

  • My answer depends on how long the flight is.  If it is ~2ish hours, I'd go it alone.  If it is ~4ish hours, I'd probably do it with DH.  There is just a lot of time involved in flying that has nothing to do with being on the plane.  So, the longer the flight, the longer the overall experience.  That is why I'd prefer having DH there.
  • DD is awesome on a plane, so I would be fine with her, DS is horrible! If the flight was under 2 hours I would do it alone if it is over that I know my limits and I would lose my stuff so no way!

  • It's an 1.5 flight.  We'd leave at 12 and get there at 12:35 (1 hour time difference).  I have a DVD player for my 3 yo that would occupy him and I can nurse the almost 7 month old if he gets cranky.  I'm not worried about the flight so much as the airport with two carseats, two babies, a stroller and one me!

  • I personally would want to maximize the amount of time there, so I would go alone.  Just bring a sling/carrier for the little one, lots of snacks for the big one, and hope that it passes quickly lol!  But having the most time there, and the most time to recover between flights, would probably be better, as would flying at a good time of day for the kids.

  • I would fly with DH.  I flew with my 3.5 y/o DD and 4 month old DS on 2 2-hour flights and we survived (even with compliments from other passengers) but it sucked. The airport, the airplane, everything.  The only way to keep DS quiet or sleeping was to nurse the entire flight.  DD was really well behaved, but kept wanting help to open her snacks or toys/books she had in her backpack and every time I had to talk to her or move my arm to help her it woke up or disturbed DS and he'd fuss.
