Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Please help....my baby is sick :(

This is the first time she has been sick and I'm a little worried- can you tell I'm a nervous first time mom!

It came on last night/this morning. She is really stuffed up, not coughing too bad and you can just tell she does not feel well/ All she did today was eat and sleep. She has had 3 poopy diapers the first one seemed a little watery and the 2nd two MIL changed and said they seemed ok. Earlier her temp was right around 100. I gave her tylenol at 5 and brought her to the inlaws. She seemed alright there and did not even feel feverish. She spit up on the way home (which is really unusual). I went to feed her and she is burning up. Her temp got up to 102 but then when we took it again it was like 101.8 so I'm not sure which it really was.

Is there anything I can do besides humidifier and cool washcloth? When do I call the doctor? I can't remember what her doctor said about fevers. I'm going to recheck her temp in a few min because we just gave her tylenol 10 min ago, I figured if it doesn't go down I will call.

Sorry I rambled so much but thanks for reading and any advice!

  • I would call...we have a nurses line at my pedis and they are able to reassure or answer questions.

  • I would call the Dr. it can't hurt anything to get their suggestions. GL Hope LO gets feeling better!
  • I would call also and talk to an advice nurse or someone for some piece of mind.  DS was sick a couple of weeks ago and I was told that for a baby under 6 months, they need to be seen if their temp is over 102.

  • Oh no! I'm sorry. Definately call the Pedi.. Humidifier should help. If her airway is congested and her breathing is rough sitting with her in the bathroom with steam from a hot shower (not with the baby in it though!) can help moisten and open up her airway too. Good luck!

  • I would elevate the crib mattress with a pillow under it to help with breathing while stuffy.  ALso, you can use saline and then use the aspirator to suction it out...it helps clear out their nose.  I would call the doctor in the morning  but keep the fever down with tylenol and a luke warm bath.  GL It is scary the 1st time they are sick but it gets easier.
