Gate check stroller - bag or no?

We're traveling with DD this weekend and we're planning on gate checking her stroller. We're going to bring a cheap-ish umbrella stroller rather than our nice jogging stroller. Do you think I should get a bag to protect it at the gate check? I don't really mind if it gets dirty since it's a spare anyway, but I don't want it to get broken. It was only $40 to begin with, so I'm not sure if it's worth buying a $15 bag for it. WWYD?

Re: Gate check stroller - bag or no?

  • If it's just a cheapy umbrella stroller I wouldn't. I did with our Maclaren umbrella stroller but only because it's was pretty much brand new, and the year before that our old stroller did get pretty dirty and scratched up.

  • We always use our nice stroller, and we didnt' bag it.  We had no problems.  All they do it take it from the top of the stairs and put it in the belly of the plane.

  • I wouldn't bother.  It's more convenient just being able to pop it open.

  • We fly a ton and gate check her stroller all the time, we've never used a bag and never had an issue. They always have it set-up and waiting for us when we get off the plane.

  • Nah...I just flew with LO and gate checked our umbrella stroller without a bag.  It was fine no problems.
