Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Nighttime...

At DS's 4-month checkup the Dr. asked how he's sleeping. When we told him that he is waking 1-2 times a night to eat, he said we need to stop that. His instructions were if DS wakes up, to go in every 15-20 min until he goes back to sleep. But not to pick him up or feed him. I've read the Ferber book, I realize this is a modified version of that even though our doc didn't explicitly say so.

DH and I are contemplating trying it this weekend, and I'm wondering if anyone here did anything similar, and how it went.

I know that anything CIO-related can be controversial here...I'm not looking to stir the pot, just wondering about your experiences. Thanks!!!

Re: Nighttime...

  • That sounds completely normal to me. Google 4 mo wakeful period. Is he eating when he wakes? If so, then he is hungry and needs to be fed. My babies grow at a fast rate so they need to eat in the night. DD1 stopped around 9 mos and I am guessing DD2 will too. When she wakes, she is hungry so I feed her. My philosophy is that the baby will STTN when he/she is ready.
