Rude Comment Vent

Last weekend DH was in an Ironman triathlon in Louisville, Ky and his brother and his fiance drove up to see him. I spent most of the day during the race with them. There is a joke since I have gone from barely a B to a DD that DH doesn't have to buy me boobs anymore. We were having a conversation about dry fit shirts, which led to my boobs, then BIL made a joke about DH getting out of paying for new boobs. Future SIL actually said "I'm sure B would have much rather paid for boobs than paid for a baby" I didn't know what to say. The first thing that came out of my mouth was "Actually my husband is very excited about the birth of our child". Yes, our baby was unexpected, but that doesn't change the fact that we want this baby and we couldn't be any happier right now. She made plenty of other comments last weekend but that was the one that stuck. I wanted to tell her to go F herself and go back to my room, but I was there to support DH and we were waiting on a shuttle to take us to another area so I could see him race.

Re: Rude Comment Vent

  • Totally lame.  Part of me wants to say, well maybe she just meant that in the long run a baby will cost waaaaay more than a new pair of boobs.  But if she made lots of other little comments like that then she's just being a biotch.  Screw her.

I'm sorry you have to deal with a future in law that is like that.  :(

I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.

  • That was uncalled for! Good for you for biting your tongue, though. Congrats to your dh for the ironman! You were near me, I live an hour away, but work in Louisville. :). Hope you had an otherwise good experience. Not nearly as bad, but a coworker said to me today "you are really pg". I just said, " well, I'm in my third trimester". And walked away

We lived in E-town for a couple years before we moved to Ca. I loved Louisville, and the trip was great other than the comments. It was so nice getting to see some of my friends from there.

  • You showed remarkable restraint in your reply to her comment.  And it's a good thing you did, because an Ironman is a LONG event and it would have made for a very unhappy day if you'd told her what you really thought.    Our baby is a surprise, too, and I can understand how hurtful that comment would be.  Just because our babies weren't planned doesn't make them any less wanted or loved.

  • Wow, she sounds like a bitter and/or jealous b!tch.  There's only one appropriate response to this situation: flaming bag of poo.

Yeah.  The Ironman competition was the talk of the town this weekend.  I live in Jeffersonville, IN ... and there was wall-to-wall coverage on the news! :)

It sucks that she made those comments, but some people just don't have any class!  You just hold on to the joy you and your DH are sharing right now and just let her petty comments go.  It's a joy that she can't possibly understand right now.  I pity her for such a remark!

  • At first I thought maybe she didn't mean it in a bad way but if this is just one of many comments then sounds like she has some issues.  Is she having trouble getting pregnant?  She sounds bitter.  Ah well...just enjoy your baby and forget it.

On another note...CONGRATS to your hubby for finishing Louisville.  We made the trip from CA to Ironman Louisville a few years ago.  DH is really into Ironman.  That course can be brutal if it's too hot and humid (which it was in 2008).  I couldn't believe how many men were being carried out on stretchers, having seizures, etc from dehydration.  Good for your DH for competing!!

  • They haven't started TTC but I know she does want kids. I also think her "plan" was to be married and start her family young (she's only 25, its not like she's running out of time). I've gotten used to hearing little comments from her, this one was just so much more hurtful than usual.

He didn't finish this one but I am still so incredibly proud of him. He stopped at mile 80 of the bike ride. The aid stations ran out of water and he was having a hard time taking in enough nutrients and started feeling dizzy. He is going to take a break and start training again after the baby comes. He wants to run a half ironman in May and we can train together since I'm doing a half marathon to get back in shape. He'll probably try again in a cooler climate later.

  • Wow, they ran out of water?!  That's horrible!  Yeah, my DH passed out at one point and they gave him oxygen.  He had to walk the marathon.  Crazy what these guys do to themselves.  Good for him for listening to his body if he was dizzy!  My DH has done the half in Boise and Oceanside which were much more comfortable regarding weather conditions. Good luck with that half marathon!

  • Oh yeah.. She's jealous.

Wanting a baby makes people do crazy things.. Maybe they are not TTC just yet but I'm sure she is ready.

There is no reason for rude little comments like that, but dont let it get to you Smile
