What's the dumbest thing you've done so far?

We got a hand me down bumbo from a friend. When Alexandra was still too young for it, I told DH that I had read on the bump (and maybe one other site) that the bumbo can be bad for trunk development or something. DH and I are big fans of no clutter so he cheerfully said "Then it's time that thing GTFO!" and I think he tossed it.

Now I wish I had it and I just found out it cost 40 bucks! Stupid Jilicious. :(

  • Not purchase cheap diapers when my twins were born.  We spend a gazillion dollars on Pampers for my twins - ugh the madness.

  • I love our Bumbo. It comes sooooo in handy when I need him to sit for a few minutes while I prep for dinner, grab a drink, etc. I don't let him sit in it for very long, but he LOVES it. I think it's because it's a new perspective on the world for him! Anyway - the dumbest thing I've done so far is definitely waking my baby.... I did it three times and all three times it bit me in the @$$ so badly. Now if he's sleeping, I let him sleep. It's my cardinal rule now!
  • Taking a "quick" trip to the store without bringing the diaper bag.  That's the day she had a massive blowout, in the carseat, and I had no diapers/wipes/spare outfit.  Had to buy all those things again.

  • Before I left for work one morning, I heated up a 5 oz bottle of breastmilk for SO to give DS who had just woken up.  SO was still half asleep & tried to give DS the bottle in the dark.  All of a sudden DS is screaming & SO is yelling at me that I hadn't put any milk in the bottle.  As it turns out, the cap must have been loose & all 5 oz of milk dumped out on DS in his bassinet.

I'm still not convinced it was my fault.  I think the bottle was defective.  Embarrassed

When DD was probably a month old we went to the mall. I pulled out the stroller, hooked her carseat in and went into the mall. When I pulled DD out to change her diaper I never strapped her all the way back in to the car seat. I just kooked the plastic part that goes over the chest and didn't buckle the two buckles between her legs. I thought I'd let her be a little more comfy while we were strolling about in the mall. Well needless to say I never remembered to strap her all the way in and I drove home like that. She had a blanket covering her body so I totally didn't even see it when I clicked her back into the base in my car. I saw it when I went to get her out at home and FREAKED out. I called DH crying... I could have killed my kid. He made me feel better by saying stuff like she's a new baby and we aren't used to all these things we have to remember now. Oh, leave it to me to forget one of the most important things ever like strapping your child in properly... Hello!? I felt like the worst mother for a long time. Now I am just thankful nothing happened!

Yes we did that too.  My husband noticed she was trying to sit up as I drove down the highway.  Freaked us the f out, we both didn't notice. but you know what? It scared us so bad it will NEVER happen again, we'll always triple check.

  • I have also forgetten to strap DD in the carseat after taking her out of her stroller at a store and wrapping her in her blanket and placing her back in. Luckily, we only around the block to a restaurant so she wasn't unstrapped for long.

I did something similar.  I strapped DD in, but forgot to lock the carseat into the base.  I pulled out of the parking lot and she tipped over and it took 10 minutes to stop because no one would let me into the other lane to pull over.  I felt so terrible.

My husband once put our toddler into her seat and didn't buckle her in. He had stepped away to grab something and, supposedly, had asked me to buckle her in. We were driving different cars and I didn't hear him say anything. I started toward home and noticed she was climbing out of her seat. I freaked! At first I thought she had figured out the buckles, but, after talking to DH, discovered otherwise. Scary!

I did this, too. It was after having lunch with a friend.  We agreed it was better to just not mention it to DH.

I also cut the tip of DS finger while cutting his nails with clippers.  His poor finger bled for two hours.  My mom had to come over to console me, and she just rocked him until it stopped bleeding.  He feel asleep during this nightmare.  The nurse at the pedi office assured me that it happens all the time.

  • The dumbest thing I have done so far is letting LO get overheated earlier in the summer. It was Memorial Day weekend and we were at our club and we had her in the stroller under an umbrella. I figured since she was in the shade she would be fine; I didnt take into account that those infant seats are like little ovens (not to mention that she was still not perfect at regulating her temperature)! When I took her out to feed her, she was all flushed and warm and a teeny bit lethargic...I felt absolutely terrible and was terrified that she would end up back in the hospital!

She ended up being totally fine and just needed to cool off for a few minutes, but after that we bought a clip on fan with foam blades to attach to her carseat so she stays cool even on 100 degree weather!
