Mirena Question

Hi all,

I am supposed to get mirena inserted in a couple of weeks, would you be able to tell me your experience with it?  Looking for the good, the bad and the ugly?  LOL!

 TIA!

  • I LOVE mine! There was some mild cramping the day of insertion and no bleeding at all until a week afterwards. Then I spotted for four weeks and now, nothing! No cramps, no bleeding, no feeling of the strings, I'm still losing weight, I'm not insane with emotions, my hair is falling out but that's pregnancy related and not Mirena related. It's really wonderful!

  • C&P'd from another post I answered: All I can say is that getting it put in was horrible. If mine ever comes out, I won't go through it again. Now I know not everyone has a painful insertion but if you decide to go for it I would suggest not taking LO and having a friend with you. I was at the office literally for hours, cramping to the point of retching, while the office ladies watched Aiden. I had to stay until I felt I could drive.

  • I have Paraguard but I wanted to offer a different perspective from the pp.  I didn't even feel my IUD being inserted...like not one bit.  I had no idea my midwife was done until she was chatting about having trouble grabbing the strings to cut them down to size.  I was like,"uhhhh, you're done already?"  LOL  And I had DS w/me but just in case, you might want to make other arrangements for LO.

  • I made the appointment for a day that the kids are in daycare, but maybe I will have my DH on standby just in case. .. I'm nervous about all of this .

  • I am sort of a special seed. I had to be hospitalized because of complications with my Mirena.

When I first had it put in I was super excited. The insertion didn't hurt one bit and it only took the doctor 5 minutes to insert it. I had it put in on a Friday. Well, Sunday I woke up and I was super sick at my stomach. I couldn't throw up but I was extremely nauseous. As the day went on I started running random fevers. I would have a fever for 5 minutes and then it would go away. Monday things were going the same way but I finally was able to throw-up once. I went to the doctor Tuesday and she said that everything looked just fine. Thursday I was still not feeling too well and still getting random fevers and that evening I started having horrible diarrhea. I called the doctor Friday morning and she had me come in right away. She did a pelvic exam and I was super tender. She sent me right over to the hospital and they started me on IV antibiotics. I was in the hospital for 2 days with an infection from the Mirena... it sucked!!!

  • No complaints here!  I am on my 2nd Mirena, I had the first in for almost 6 yrs after my second child was born and just had the second put in at my 6 week check up.  The only thing I felt was a little pinch for either insertion.  I did not have a period at all with the first one and hoping the same this time around.

The only sucky thing is that I spotted for several weeks with both of them, but nothing more than a pantyliner could handle.

  • I've been bleeding nonstop since it was inserted nearly 4 months ago. Yay.

  • Mine was inserted Aug 9th.  So far I love it.  I had some cramping while it was being inserted but nothing after that.  When I sat up after having it inserted I did get light headed and had to lay back down.  I've heard that is normal though.  I've had some very light spotting but nothing that even required a panty liner.

    Good Luck!
