Taveling suggestions?

We're hitting the road for a 10 hour trip in about a month (DS will be 4 months + a couple days).. and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to make it go smoothly??  DS isn't bad in the car at all, but he usually doesn't sleep either.  He's not a great napper at home, but if I'm persistent I can get him to take a nap or two.  I'm starting to get worried he'll be super crabby, tired and bored and we'll have a horrible time.  (although I'm trying to stay positive).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! TIA!

  • Somebody should sit in the back with your LO to comfort, entertain, feed etc...  We took a 5 hour trip and stopped to change her diaper in the car... not ready for public restrooms just yet!

He will probably sleep. Keep his favorite stuffed animal nearby for a friendly face. Stop a couple of times to change, burb and cuddle. He'll be ok!

  • we've done lots of trips, 15 hours, 9 hours, and 5.5 hours.  When possible, we leave at night and drive through til morning so she sleeps most of the way.  Ditto PP, have someone sit in the back.  Also, try not to stop while LO is sleeping.  DH is notorious for making lots of stops and she inevitably woke up each time.

  • Just returned from a 10 hour trip.  Make sure you stop on LO's schedule.  On the trip down we stopped when WE were hungry and had to stop again in an hour because LO was hungry.  On the way back we wised up and stopped when HE was hungry and the trip went much smoother.  Oh and we did have one in the back with him at all times.
