Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If LO STTN, how did they do when traveling?

DS is five months and has been STTN since eight weeks.  We are visiting family this weekend for five days and I'm getting worried as I've heard this can totally mess up the sleeping habits.

Did your LO do ok with sleep when you were away?  Do you have any tips on what you did to help? Thanks!

Also, we're planning to leave on Thursday evening when he should be sleeping and transition him into the PNP when we arrive.  I'm sure he'll wake up and I'm debating if I should give him a bottle when we arrive (maybe 2-4 oz) to help get him back to sleep?  I certainly don't want him thinking that he can wake at night again to eat but thought it might help.  Any thoughts?

  • We have traveled a lot and it has never really affected his night time sleep.  Naps are usually a little off, but that is due to the fact that we get busy in the day.

I would give him a little bottle when you get there like you mentioned.  I do this for DS often when he is at a sitter's and we get home late.  I do BF, but I assume it would be the same comfort to your LO to have a bottle.

  • My kids generally sleep the same (or better!) than they do at home when traveling.

  • DD does great sleeping while traveling, though I'm nervous every time.  She won't sleep in quite as much, but considering she sleeps until 10 at home getting up at 7 isn't anything I can complain about :)  I also don't think it would hurt to offer a bottle if he needs help going back to sleep.

  • DD did fine. She woke up crying once for a few minutes the first night (on 2 different trips so far), but that was it.

I don't think one night of dream feeding will cause a problem.

  • DS did just fine. What I noticed the first trip was that the night he woke up was after a particularly busy day with few napping opportunities. So I made sure to give him a good nap at least once a day (except from napping in the car). So it meant I stayed in the hotel for an afternoon, etc. In the 4 trips we've taken since he's been a champ!

same here.  i think it's because we are all so busy during the day that DD is pooped at night.  but we are traveling again this weekend, so i hope i don't end up eating my words!
