Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I got spoiled

by my OB. I got spoiled by them being able to fit me in whenever I wanted while pregnant. I also got cocky.

I called in today to schedule my annual (due Sept 10). the earliest they can get me in is Oct 20. Dang.

Re: I got spoiled

  • You need an annual already?!

My doc told me since all my paps have been normal, the standard is now every 3 years.  It should be a year from your 6 week appt, minimum.

They didn't perform a pap at my 6 week. Or is there another reason why you should wait a year?

well, by definition, an "annual" would be every year ;)

But my doc still does one every year, and my insurance covers one every year.

I had a pap at my 12 week appointment, which was a year ago (from sept 10)

    Fail!

I had an annual at my first pregnancy appointment, but I was told to not worry about scheduling another till January or February 2011.  I hope to be pregnant-ish around then again, so hopefully two birds, one stone.

  • Yeah, I want to go as soon as I can because I'm still having some pain during sex. So I'd like to talk to her about that.

Maybe if I call back and explain that, they can get me in sooner. Hmmm

  • Yeah, my OB's office is the same way, so mine told me to schedule my annual at my six-week check-up. Otherwise who knows when I'd get in.

(And, yes, I still go annually too. Last year I just happened to be newly pregnant.)

  • I never heard about the standard being every 3 years.  I wouldn't be ok with that, personally.

I got one at my first OB appt when I was pregnant.  So my next one is due in early Sept also.  I scheduled mine at my 6 week pp though, so I am golden.  LOL!

Same here for all of this, except it was August so I just had mine. They didn't mention 3 years when it was over, they actually tried to have me schedule next year's too. Um, I have no clue what I'll be doing next August!

The three years was recommended in a study recently. Due to personal and family history, I intend to go every year.

When that study came out, it did concern me that insurance may begin to only cover a pap every third year. I'd still pay to go, but I worry about women at risk for cancer, etc. who wouldn't be able to afford going every year.
