When did you take LO swimming for the first time? Was it a heated pool? Chlorine?
Our pedi said we could take baby Robert swimming over a month ago-that the biggest concern was his skin getting irritated so to give him a bath right after. I want to take him in the heated baby pool at the community pool, but DH thinks it will have more chlorine bc of all of the pee! He wants to wait longer to take him swimming at all.
Thoughts please?.....
Re: Swimming?
I did a lot of research earlier this summer and the general consensus is to wait until 6 months because babies can't regulate their own body temps well enough until then. If you choose to take a baby in the water earlier, a heated pool would be fine.
We just moved to Lake Erie and took DD to it once, but didn't go swimming. We just had her put her feet in the water and sand, but she got chilly pretty quick.

We've been to the pool for a pool party for another friend's 3 year old, the lake a bunch of times (we have a cabin on a lake) and still havn't taken him in! I figure next year we'll have a ton of fun in the water!
See what I mean-so many different opinions!! Ugh!

We never did ask the pedi about it, but I wanted to wait because of the temp regulation issue. We are taking DD swimming for the first and last time this summer on Sunday. My aunt and uncle just finished their pool and we are having an end of summer party. They have a little "kiddie pool" area (actually the suntan deck) that the water is only about 6" deep so it should be fairly warm water since it's been around 100 degrees for weeks now. I'm not sure what she'sll think of it, but we're going to try.
Oh, and I don't think that your kiddie pool would have more chlorine. I would think that they wouldn't be able to add too much since it could be very irritating to everyone.
