MESSY!! LOL I knew it would get messy but it was more than I anticipated thats for sure! It was still fun and exciting though! We had our 4 month check up and Pedi said LO was ready for cereal and fruit/veggies.
Has anyone else's Pedi said no to juice also? Our said it's all just "sugary junk." So we aren't doing that yet. I was a little disappointed because I know LO will love it, but at the same time, I know she doesn't need all that extra sugar.
Re: Tried cereal and prunes with DD for the 1st time today and it was...
I was wondering the same about juice. I've had to give LO pear juice for constipation (we have major tummy issues), but that's it. I guess the juice is just more sugary (like you mentioned).
Cereal has been super messy for us, too!
Glad we aren't the only ones! After each bite, LO stuffs her fingers in her mouth right after and then touches something else and it gets all out of hand! lol I gave up "cleaning as we go" and just cleaned it all up at the end-thats when I started having fun lol
I know exactly how you feel! I'm a proud mommy too!
LO does this the whole time, but I figure it's helping him learn food goes from the spoon to his mouth and he's learning how to put things in his mouth now, so I don't fight it. I just strip him down to his diaper.
He has cereal in his bottles (reflux) anyways but at 4 months we started with spoon feeding him, he enjoys it and it's a lot of fun.
DH said he thought she was trying to push it down LOL I think its more like you said, that they are associating that the food is coming from a hand and they think it's THEIR hand lol
DS does the hand thing, too. He loves to talk while he is eating cereal and will stuff his hands in his mouth and talk/hum around them and spew the cereal everywhere. He also sometimes motorboats his lips while he has a mouthful and the cereal flies out of his mouth!
Our pedi said she could have 1-2 oz of juice a few times per week if I wanted to give it to her. Right now, I only occasionally give the Gerber apple/prune juice when she is constipated. Otherwise, I don't see the need. She doesn't really care for it anyway.
Have fun with solids. DD is on her second veggie (carrots) and loving it. We have 2 more containers and then it's on to squash. We did cereal (rice and oatmeal) briefly, but she wasn't a fan. So, we decided to just move on to veggies (orange, yellow, then green) and fruit after that.
