Anyone deliver at Park Plaza Hospital?

Has anyone delivered at Park Plaza Hospital? We took a tour and liked it, however they said that they put the baby in the nursery for 4 hours after delivery. I am planning on breastfeeding, so how does the timing work out? Do you breastfeed before or after the nursery time? If anyone has delivered there and breastfed, please let me know your experience. TIA!

  • I can't remember ever seeing anyone mention that one on here. I actually had to go search for it because I'd never heard of it (but immediately recognized it once I saw the picture!) Is this your only option with your doctor?

If they are like Women's you probably get one hour for breastfeeding, then 3 hours in the nursery. I didn't deliver their either though, and would not have based on this practice alone, but that's me.  It wasn't an option with my doctor.

  • That's the one by the museums.

I'm not sure. Never heard of anyone delivering there. It is close enough to TCH if you needed it. No idea on what the hospital is like.

  • I was born there in 1978.  As for putting the baby in the nursery for 4 hours, that's actually pretty standard.  They are doing the same at Womans Hospital and I had the same experience with my first son (in DC).  They do let the baby spend an hour or so with you in the birthing room but then they take the baby to observe him or her for a few hours while you get moved to your postpartum room, rest (ha!  I couldn't!), etc.  They typically have to check breathing and other things for the first few hours after birth.  You should be able to breastfeed before they take the baby and spend time with him/her for a while before that happens.  Did you ask them how long the baby and you stay in the birthing room before they take the baby?
