HI girls. This might be a rambling post becuase I want to explain what i know before asking the question so I apologize in advance. On of my BF is doing her first cycle of IVF. She has two m/c before (one missed m/c and one early loss). I knew they "inserted" the embroy about a month ago.
Last week she called and said that she got a BFP a week before but that her betas were not correct and the dr. thought it was a tubular PG. (no u/s yet). And she was going back on Friday to confirm it and schedule a D&C. (she told me she was technically 7.5wks becuase with IVF the first 4 are missed). On Friday she called and said that they saw a yolk sac and a flicker of a HB and her betas went from 239 to 1300s. Oh that the Dr. was wrong about the tubular pg Today they said that they saw growth so she is going Friday for another U/S.
Ok so here is my question? Shouldn't they be able to see a strong HB and a pretty established peanut if she is almost 8 weeks? I am hoping and praying everything is ok but I remember from my U/S (and I always measured "small" hence the 2 m/c) that they found a HB at 6 weeks and at 8 weeks we should have seen little arm buds and stuff like that. I just am pissed if they Dr. is keeping her hopes up for no reason. Are the milestones different with IVF? she keeps telling me to go to this Dr. if we need IVF but I am second guessing that idea becuase I feel like he is putting her through this crazy emotional rollacoster. What do you think? I am just so worried for her and I really want her to have a take home baby. TIA.
Re: Question about my friends IVF experience...
You are completely correct...although I am not so certain about the REs comment about losing 4 weeks. I have had 3 IVFs and that has never been told to me. My progress is based on the last day that I take my BCP pill before starting my injections...and has been all three times...and was always accurate upon measuring as well.
Her numbers do seem low for being 8 weeks...mine were over 2700 at 5 weeks but all that matters is doubling...so if her RE is okay with the doubling than you can't really look at that. I truly hope that her RE is not just stringing her along. With my first IVF pg that ended in a D&C my doctor indicated from the beginning that he was not certain how things would go. We did have to wait a week between u/s but I was always told upfront when things did not look good. She should be seeing a bit more at her u/s than she indicated...so I would be a bit concerned...although some babies are just slow starters. Really hard to say.
Sorry for the rambling. Hope this helps a bit!
Thanks. He isn't telling her she is out of the woods but keeps saying "lets wait and see" and "there is still hope" Which I don't know what else he would say to her. I guess that the 4 weeks means that like us girls that have to wait for our period to be missing (around 4 weeks after our last AF) she would already be 4 weeks by the time they did the implantation right?
I guess I am more pissed that he told her it was a tubular PG without doing an U/S. My two babies both measure early and that is why I knew it wasn't going to end well both times. I asked my Dr. about having "small babies" and he said that so early things are what they are supposed to be or not (a couple of days here or there is something but not weeks). We are going on vacation with them to the Bahamas in a week and a half and I would hate for something to happen while we were away. T&P to her please.

My retrieval has always been on CD 11 and transfer on CD 16...so a little less than 3 full weeks...which is why I am thinking she may not be as far along as she believes. Is her doctor confirming this time frame?
Keeping your friend in my T&P. Hoping all goes well for her.
