Austin Babies

Flushed a CD insert down the toilet.

CRAP.

I laid the insert on the edge of the toilet bowl while I was using the sprayer to rinse a very poopy cloth diaper. I then flushed so I could rinse some more without sticking my hand in poopy water. The flushing water grabbed the edge of the insert and sucked it down the toilet. Indifferent

The whole thing flushed, but I'm worried it's going to get backed up further down the line. Either way, I think I'm going to have to call a plumber, and DH is going to be PISSED. I'm afraid to do a test flush of the toilet for fear of overflowing the bowl or forcing the insert further into the pipes.

Oh and in the midst of my call to DH to tell him that I flushed an insert down the toilet, my phone died. It said something about smart card failure and then just went blank. I knew I shouldn't have let Alex play with the phone. ~sigh~ I'm off to AT&T so I can get a working phone to call a plumber.

Re: Flushed a CD insert down the toilet.

  • Ugh, so sorry. We had something stuck in our plumbing once and it ended up causing huge issues so definitely better to call the plumber now. The jackasses who plumbed our house dropped a freaking box of chalk down the pipe and left it. Months later I happened to notice a backflow of water randomly pouring out of our powder bath sink. Luckily it is attached to the laundry room in which Monte was smart enough to put a floor drain so no water damage, but still a PITA to fix. :(

  • if you are feeling brave, you can try to fix it yourself.  I accidentally flushed one of those clorox toilet wand thingies and clogged the toilet.

    basic steps:

    1. turn water off (it's the knob in in the back) and flush a few times.  remove remaining water from the tank.

    2. unscrew the two screws at the bottom

    3. shimmy the toilet over and tilt it a bit - the insert will probably be right at the base of the toilet.

    gross? check.  free? check. check.

  • Oh man, that sucks.  And I am going to be really impressed if you manage to fix it yourself.

it's really not that difficult, I promise!  I googled before attempting and did it all by myself (I was single at the time).  Big Smile

  • oops! You were very calm when we chatted this afternoon!

I hope you get it taken care of quickly. I could ask my bil (he/his family have a plumbing business) if there is anything you can do.

He's a bit of a smart mass but i'll put up with that for you :)

  • Thanks fjaril.

ssinca, thanks for the suggestion. I didn't get a chance to try it out because I had to take care of some work stuff, take care of the kids and get dinner ready. Mike is home now and he is planning to take a look at it.

  • Oh wow.  At first I thought you meant a liner and I was thinking, "Aren't some of them flushable?"  A whole insert!  Indifferent  Hope y'all were able to either get it out or get it cleared out without too much trouble!
