Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How is your 3-4 month old napping?

I REALLY want to get LO on a different nap schedule, but he seems pretty happy with the one he is on now! I should feel glad he's on a routine, but it is a weird one.

He typically takes two short morning naps (like two 45 minute naps at 9 and 11ish), one long afternoon one (like 2-4:30sih), and a short early evening one (6-7ish). I'd like to consolodate those two morning ones to one longer morning one. Now, if we go out and he sleeps in his carrier in the morning, he will take a long one. I'm wondering if all this will change next week when his big brother starts preK and we are out for at least 30 minutes around 9 for drop off. I'd love to run errands with him asleep in his carrier in the mornings, but at the same time, I do want to establish a good nap schedule soon.

As I type this, he is going off "routine" by waking up from his nap about 1 1/2 into it when he normally sleeps 2-2 1/2 hours now. Ugh. OH and he sleeps decent at night. From like 9 pm - 7 am with a wake up to nurse around 3:30. He sometimes wakes around 1 and 5 am, but can put himself back to sleep then.

  • DD typically wakes up in the morning around 6 or 6:30.  Then she naps around 10:30, usually for an hour or so.  She takes an afternoon nap around 2:00 usually for about 2 hours, then she'll usually take a short one around 6 or 7.  She goes to bed for good at 9.  But this is a loose schedule because I went back to work recently, and between home, daycare 3 days a week, and my MIL watching her two days a week, she is not really in a routine when it comes to napping.

  • My DD is 14 weeks old and never naps for more than 30 minutes other than when we are in the car for a couple of hours....it's been like that from the beginning. Just this last week she started sleeping for 11 hours a night after doing 3-5 hour stretches. She is usually on a 2-2.5 cycle. (Eat, play, sleep). We're definitely not on a set schedule time wise.I'm now starting to schlep 2 older kids to school so not sure how that will change things. Sometimes I wish she had one long nap during the day so I could get more done but at least she is finally STTN. She is still sort of a pokey eater (ebf) and so not much gets done during the day usually....oh well
