Recommend your carrier

DS doesn't like the stroller... LOVES to be carried... LOVES his Bjorn original carrier... but it's starting to not like me. He's almost 16lbs and it's starting to hurt my back after about 20 minutes of him in it. That's posing a problem since I use it so often. I'm heading to a long day out in Seattle tomorrow and there's Puyallup fair coming up, too, both may be a c ouple hours in the carrier at a time. I'm trying to decide on a new carrier to get and was hoping to get your guys' opinions. I'm kinda swinging between the Ergo active/performance and the Bjorn sport. What do you use and like/dislike?

Re: Recommend your carrier

  • I just bought a Beco Gemini and I LOVE it. It's very comfortable, even for long periods of time, and DD seems to love it too- she snuggles right in. The straps and body are super padded, but still feel light and breathable. It has an adjustable headrest and base, and it can do front carries (facing in AND out), a hip/side carry and a back carry. Plus, it's cute- I have the purple flowery one. It's well worth the $. For me, it's way more comfortable than the Ergo was and I couldn't be happier with my choice.

  • I have a Beco and a hotsling and use both regularly. The hotsling usually just for quick errands where I'm popping DD2 in and out; the Beco for longer errands, walks, zoo trip, etc.

I tried on both the Ergo and the Beco at a local store before deciding on the Beco. I felt like it had more head support, liked that it came with an infant insert, liked the way it distributed weight just a bit better, and as a bonus, I liked the fabric and pattern selection better.

And I love, love, love that I can use it for either my toddler or my infant. It has a looong life as far as use (unlike the hotsling -- when DD2 gets to be about 20 pounds, it'll be time to retire the sling. With DD1, it started to kill my back when she got around that weight.) I know you get that kind of weight limit on the Ergo as well -- no idea about the Bjorns.

  • I just ordered a beco baby gemini and am waiting for it to arrive.  I like all the carrying options (front in, front out, back, and side!) and as pp said, it's way cuter than an ergo.  I had a chance to try one on a few weeks ago and it's amazing how different it felt from the bjorn I have been using.  I could hardly feel any weight from LO -- who is nearly 15lbs.  My gemini is supposed to arrive Wed and I can't wait!

This! I just bought mine on Craigslist on Saturday and wore DS in it for 3 hours without a problem.

  • Love the Ergo but have not tried a Beco. Have heard wonderful things about both.

  • I have the Ergo Performance and LOVE it!!
  • We have the Ergo Sport and I love it.  All the weight is on my hips (which I can't feel) and not on my back!  Its very comfortable.
