Anyone switch from an OB to midwife for 2nd child?

My OBGYN office has both OBs and Midwives. I saw the drs with DS, but we are trying for #2 and I would like to see the Midwives now, but I don't know if that will be weird. I just like the personal attention you get from the Midwives as opposed to the drs. For my last pap I saw one of the midwives and she was so sweet.

I had a relatively easy pregnancy & delivery and I am hoping the next one will be just as easy ::crossing fingers::

  • I don't see why it'd be weird.  I had started off seeing midwives with my first pregnancy before switching to the doctors.  As far as the appointments, there wasn't really any difference.  Being that you've gone through an easy pregnancy and delivery, it makes sense why you'd like to switch.  If you go on other bump boards, it seems like a lot of people are more comfortable switching to a midwife, birthing center, etc for their 2+ pregnancy

  • I've actually thought about doing the same thing, as there is a midwife at my office who I know is very supportive of doing VBAC's.  I know my Dr. (whom I really like) is just going to push a repeat C-section when the time comes, and I'm not sure I like that idea.  I've thought it might be uncomfortable too, but ultimately you should just do what feels right to you.  Who cares what your former Dr. thinks.

  • I made the switch.  I loved my old OB, but I wasn't particularly happy with how my OB's office and their affiliated hospital handled the birth of DD.  In particular, the OBs were not involved much with the birth and instead I was primarily seen my residents during the duration of my failed induction.  Though my OB was very supportive of helping me get a VBAC this time, ultimately, I realized I needed to switch hospitals and care providers.  So the switch to a midwife practice ended up being very natural.
  • I go to the same practice as MrsRenee.  There are midwives and doctors in the practice...you get to rotate through both and then pick which path you want for delivery.  I opted for midwife.  I like the idea of how they manage your time in the hospital versus just having a doctor around to catch the baby.  I haven't delivered yet so I can't comment but as of now I am happy with my decision.
  • Thank you for your input ladies!
