Sorry...I promise not to litter up the boards with another one but I need to know!
When I breastfed Ben I got multiple clogged ducts that turned in to mastitis twice in a months span (I stopped nursing after that) and now I've had 3 bouts of clogged ducts in 2 nights...although I was able to relieve them a lot quicker than I did with Ben. Is this common in the beginning of breastfeeding or am I going to deal with this the entire time? My experience last time is a motivator to keep on going this time so I don't plan on giving up, but I wasn't sure if this was a thing to do with being a new breastfeeder, like cracking nipples.
ETA: Oh and I also got a milk blister about 2 days ago...it doesnt hurt as bad as it did in the beginning but how do I treat that?
Re: Yet another BFing ?...
I don't know what I really have a helpful answer for you, but I felt like I was getting clogged ducts after I went back to work and I bought these things, made by playtex maybe, that sort of looked like a doughnut and you could warm them up in the microwave and put them in your bra and it relieved some of the discomfort until the duct became patent again.
If you're getting recurring plugged ducts then you might not be fully emptying the breast at a feeding. I would pump for a few minutes until closer to empty. Good luck, those things hurt like a mother!
On the blister, my LC said to lance it with a sterilized needle. Do NOT pick at it like I did, it completely destroyed my nipple.
