Sick and terrified :(

Hey ladies..I'm here to vent (again - I'm sorry :(  ) I have a sinus infection that is moving down into my chest, a cough, sore throat, chills/aches, but NO fever - thank god! I'm going to the doctor today at 3:15, but I'm scarred as he!! because I will most likely need an antibiotic..I'm, of course, going to tell them I'm pregnant (going to my GP), and my OB office said that there are antibiotics that are safe for pregnancy..but I'm still terrified, because I'm so early..And I know that doctors generally don't want you on anything in your first trimester..I'm going to lose my mind :(

I hope you feel better soon.   Just to ease your fears if necessary they will perscribe a pregnancy safe antibiotic and you may not even need one (e.g. if it is viral which is likely due to the lack of a fever).  Make sure you drink lots of fluids!
  • There is no reason to be terrified. Millions and millions of women have taken antibiotics during pregnancy.  I took some during the very earliest weeks of pregnancy with my daughter.  Many antibiotics are safe in pregnancy.  An untreated infection is more dangerous than a category B antibiotic.

I hope you feel better.  And seriously, try to relax.

  • Thank you so much..Good points, and you all have helped me to relax..I know an antibiotic is much better than an untreated infection..I have a good (or bad) feeling I'll be on an antibiotic..I get sinus infections alot, mostly in the winter, and I know what they feel like, and this def feels and looks (sorry, TMI) like one..They usually put me on an antibiotic, and it wipes it out in a day or 2..Thanks again, ladies..

  • I hope you feel better soon, and that the Dr gives you some good re-assurance about everything. Good luck!

  • With my last pregnancy my doctor said..

'listen, this is the same medication we would be giving your baby if it was outside of you, only yours isn't liquid and bubblegum flavored'

My reply of course was, can I get mine in bubblegum flavor? No such luck.
