Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Is this 4 month wakeful?

LO (4 months old next week) goes to bed around 8pm and used to sleep 7-9 hours before waking up to eat and then go back to sleep until around 7am.  The last two nights he's woken up at 11p, 3a and 5:30a and isn't satisified until I nurse him each time.  He's also eating more frequently during the day.  Could this be a growth spurt (is that the same as 4 month wakeful?) or could he be teething and I should be doing something else to comfort him besides feeding? I don't want to start a habit of middle of the night feeding if he doesn't really need it, but it seems like he does.  He is not any more cranky than normal.  Thanks!

Re: Is this 4 month wakeful?

  • This sounds exactly like Owen! He used to be a fantastic sleeper, going from about 7-4, eating, then back to sleep until 7.

Now he wakes around midnight, 3, 6 and is up for the day at 7:30. I think it is the 4 month wakeful. I try to just soothe him but he isn't calm until I feed him. I am hoping this won't last too long, because I know we will be jumping into the teething phase soon Sad

  • My son was waking up every 3 hours in the middle of the night and was only lasting 3 hours between feeds during the day for the last 2 weeks.  Before that he would sleep 6-8 hours between feeds at night and would go about 4 hours during the day. The past 2 nights he's gone back to 6-8 hours between feeds but still only 3 hours during the day and now I leak breastmilk in my sleep because my body got used to him waking up every 3 hours!!! I think that was the 4 month wakeful!!! (or at least I hope it was!) It sounds like it could be what you're going through!!!! Hopefully it doesn't last too long!!! GL!
