Babies: 3 - 6 Months

When did your baby laugh

My LO had her 3 month birthday yesterday and she still doesn't laugh.  Is this normal?  Just wondering when your baby laughed and what you did to make it happen.  TIA

Re: When did your baby laugh

  • Honestly, my memory is mush right now but I think it was around the 3 month mark...be patient...all babies are different.  She'll laugh soon enough.

  • Ds laughed the first time at 3 months and then not for a long time. He didn't start consistently laughing until 4 months plus.

  • 13 weeks 2 days old. (3 months 1 day)
  • DS has just started with little laughs this week but I'm still waiting for the long belly laughs that I see so many little ones doing!  I can't wait!

  • DD laughed at 3 months and then for the second time today. She's giggled a few times a week, but she's only really laughed hard twice (both videos are on my blog:-))

  • He has been laughing for a couple of weeks, sometimes very giggly sounding, but a lot of times he does what I call a nerd laugh. Sharp gaspy inhale while smiling kind of like Revenge of the Nerds.
  • DS wants to laugh SO bad...he smiles a bunch and gets really excited, but then nothing happens.

He does "talk" and coo...but just hasn't laughed yet.  It's been close, but we're still waiting.  :)

  • Liam laughed for the first time at 2 months and 1 day. He also had his first real smiles when he was about 2-3 weeks old. And, he has een talking and giggling like crazy for a couple of weeks now. So, I guess he was a little early at doing both of those. (he is a little behind on using his hands, though)

I got him to laugh for the first time by smiling at him and talking to him and tickling him. Now, he loves to "dance" and that gets him belly laughing just about every time! I have so many sound files of him laughing and talking it is ridiculous!

Every baby's different. From what I have read, some babies don't laugh until around 6mo old, and doctors don't usually worry about it until around 8mo.

Don't worry, Mama! I'm sure you will hear lo's sweet laughter soon!

  • parker laughed for the first time on his 12 week birthday.  it took me a minute to realize what was happening & what a big milestone it was.

i managed to catch it on video & posted it to my blog.  i STILL love watching it :)

after that one time, he didn't do it again for a few weeks though.  now he does it all the time.  he's 4mo3days.  every baby is different though... just be patient.

those giggles are so worth the wait :)

This. You can tell the intent is there,  but no sound.

  • Bri did it a week ago and then again yesterday - sooooo awesome! My husband was doing raspberry type blows on her tummy and She was cracking up. I hope it gets more consistent!
  • Yesterday. I had her in the swing after dinner and I was being silly with her Sophie. I would "run" Sophie up her belly for a "kiss" and then back down. Sarah grinned and tried to grab her. When she caught her and Sophie squeaked, she laughed. It wasn't a full giggle but it was so cute.
  • we got one little "ha" about a week ago, and then this past saturday in the car, we got a full on laugh for about 30 seconds while I was making a funny face. She hasnt' done it again since, despite my attempts. She was the same way with smiling, too though. Started with half smile, then we got one or two and it took her a while to start doing it regularly. So be patient...it's coming!
  • DD just started laughing last week, so she was at least 4 months old.
