Hi Ladies,
My DD had thrush a couple weeks ago and she was taking Nystatin for it, it is all clear from her month and from my nipples and we followed the pedi's directions to give her medicine for 3 extra days, I know that it is common for babies with thrush to have a diaper rash due to the infection in her mouth getting in contact with her skin down there when she has a bowel movement but last Thursday when we went for her 4mo appt (a little earlier than 4mo ) the pedi asked me if I had switched diaper brands cause the rash looks more like a contact rash.
I was using the diapers from a diaper cake I got at my baby shower and I didn't know they were the new dry max diapers so I immediately discarted those and went back to the pampers baby dry we have been using since she was born but the rash is not changing
she doesn't seem to be in pain or to bother her but I am feeling terrible that everything I try fails and she never had a rash before...
Any suggestions? I have tried Desitin, the butt paste, aquaphor and the nystatin cream I was using for my nipples
Re: Diaper rash help !!
I hope that you try this because it works for me EVERYTIME!!! The rash will look a million times better the next day and will be gone in 3 days!!! I swear!!! This is what I do:
Go to Wal-Mart and buy Zincofax or if you don't have that where you live buy the Parents Choice Extra Strength Diaper Rash Cream. If they don't sell that try to find a Diaper Rash cream with the highest Zinc content that you can (Hopefully around 40 %). Then, wipe your daughters bum with a warm washcloth (don't use wipes) then either air dry it or wipe it with a clean washcloth if you can't wait for it to air dry. Then, put a nice thick layer of the zinc cream all over the rash and put a diaper on. My doctor told me that if you go to change LO's bum at the next diaper change and their isn't a slight white film on LO's bum then you haven't put enough cream on to be effective. I do all of these "steps" at every diaper change and it is completely cleared up in 2-3 days!!! I hope this helps. GL!
We just went through 3 weeks of diaper rash hell! I have tried EVERYTHING! Its too long a story to type when I'm this tired but my best advice to you is - get it dry.
I used prescription creams and ointments, barriers, etc. I think the most helpful thing was 1-2 hours of "diaper-off" time a day, Aveno Baby oatmeal baths, and blow drying his butt on cool with every diaper change.
Just think about it - if you put a barrier cream on moist skin (even slightly moist), its trapping in all that nasty wetness. Get LO bone dry and then slather on the barrier cream.
Being diaper free and using the blow dryer is a pain, but it works. Even with all my efforts...its hard to get rid of it once it starts. It took a lot of time and effort. Sometimes we did 15-25 diaper changes a day, if his diaper was even slightly moist, we changed it. We even had to check him throughout the night. (he caught a "mild" case of rotavirus from the vaccine).
I think the best barrier cream is Destin Extra Strength, has a high % of zinc oxide. My pediatrician recommended Calmoseptine, its behind the pharmacy but its not presciption.
Google image search "yeast diaper rash", look at the photos and that should give you an idea if its yeast related.
I feel for ya, GOOD LUCK!

I have been dealing w/ a yucky diaper rash. Plus I think EJ has a little exzema so that makes it worse (he gets these little pinkish dry patches about the size of a pencil eraser that get dry and then go away)
Use water and washcloths instead of wipes, then let air dry
Mylanta/liquid antacid, dab on let dry.
Lotrim AF cream, then frost butt like a cake with diaper cream.
I have also use a LITTLE epsom salt in the bath(don't use too much, and be careful if you kids drink bathwater, this is a laxative). This seems to dry up a weepy rash.
I have also used baking soda in the bath, this does the same as the mylanta.
Now that the worst of the rash is going away,I stopped the lotramin and dab on some antibiotic ointment on a few spots.
Plus, lots of barebutt time,or loose diaper time (for a little while barebutt time bothered him more because his rash was rubbing against everything) I stocked up on animal pee/enzyme cleaner for when he pees.
I know some people SWEAR by bag balm. I haven't used it since our rash seems to be clearing up.
Obviously I am not doing all of this everytime at every diaper change. I am trying to keep his rashes under control since his sister had an ongoing rash for MONTHS."
